2 Week Roadtrip with Dogs - What I learned

Just got back from a round trip from SC to ND (3400 miles). Here are a few things I learned about my 2014 Trail Edition:

- When you leave them in the truck with the keys on the driver's seat, be prepared to be locked out of your truck. I hate rocker style door locks, I wish we could have the window style locks in an Up for lock and Down for unlock configuration.

- When a dog moves from the passenger seat to the rear seat, the rear window can suddenly go down.

- When having to make sudden braking, and a dog is sleeping in the passenger seat with one paw in the cup holder and one paw in in front of the gear selector, you can find your truck suddenly shift from Drive to Neutral... twice.

- The hair, oh my God the hair... (Golden Retriever and Weimaraner)

Seems like you had a good time! I keep my Belgian Malinois in a soft kennel. Keeps most of the hair I and keeps him in one place...

I have the same problem - the dog is stepping on the rear window down button on the centre console, while moving from one seat to another. Usually happens within two minutes of me leaving the vehicle - after that, I think that button becomes inoperative until you put the key back in the ignition.
You could just use the window lockout button.
I plan to build a hinged wooden cover over the centre console. This will solve that problem, and prevent doggy claws from scratching the console. It will also solve the related problem where my dog switches the seat heaters on!

We have a 73lb and a 65lb German shorthair pointer. Both are in plastic crates in the trunk. They like it that way, minimizes hair and keeps them relatively safe too. Pics in link in my signature.

The only issue I have is that my Golden Retriever was kept in a crate for 20+ hours a day for weeks by a previous owner when she was a puppy. If you even attempt to put her in one now she goes into this complete panic attack where she'll lay as flat as she can and start panting heavily to the point where she starts foaming at the mouth. I witnessed it once and said I'll never put her in a crate again. I could use one of the bar systems that would keep them in the cargo area... weird thing is she likes it when one rear seat is down and the cargo cover is pulled... she'll lay under that all day, I think she knows she has a way out.
