20" LE rims with oversized Tires; Any concerns??

Mine too and we need somebody to check their 2013 Limited door sticker to see if they did indeed go up to a 7 1/2J or the specs were just a misprint.

Somebody showing the undisputed truth with pics or a video is the only way this controversy is going to end obviously.

I can check my door sticker if needed, already sold the rims so I cant check them.

....Greg , I ran wide KM2 mudtires made for 8.5" minimum width rims on 8 inch wide ones,for 35k miles with no problems even aired down offroad. I called BFG on it and they said " off the record", as this is,that there is some fudge factor built in and to stay within a 1/2" I should be fine. Something about lawyers and a previous major Firestone recall made them narrow their limits.

See, now this is an important point!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

And it makes sense!! Can't imagine a reasonably responsible, self preserving auto part manufacturer, that would "build and spec" a tire, having such high safety standards, with-out building in some sort of, IDIOT PROOF safety measure.

Not really. It just looks like everything that says, 20" x 7J means, 20" x 7.5".
That would make the 20 inch LE rim, the only one in the family, that uses
this number code system...I can live with that more easily, than believing
that Toyota accidently published a bunch of conflicting specification sheets.

No shortage of door stickers here. Need to understand what Toyota means when they stamp, 20 x 7J on the "Limited edition", 20 x 7J rim casting. It could very well mean 20" x 7 1/2 inches wide, only wrt the limited edition;
the others are crystal clear.

these are 2013 door stickers.. for confirmation

the J refers to the lip designation,

J, JJ, K, JK, B, P and D are tire bead profiles or rim contour designations

nothing to do with size, the 7 is the measurement inside the lip,

Perhaps the 7.5 change is the outer measurement OR an error. Maybe Toyota decided to measure the outside of the rim to rim (unusual and unlikely), but I am waiting for a response from Toyota...

Now that makes logical sense, "both outer lips"....(still talking about rims here, I think right...rims right?? LOL!!), being apprx .25" to .5" wide, leaving about 7 1/2 inches inner flange to inner flange. Thanks Bookmonke.

If someone else doesn't break that LE spare pretty soon, I'll do it;
....but I'm hoping someone else gets impatient first! Hahahahaha

So, a rim labelled 7" width may measure 7.5" or so total outside to outside, however that is incorrect for standards and regs but maybe Toyota is using it in marketing material.. as the 2013 door tag still shows 20x7J..

I suspect that all the 2010-2013 Limited rims are the same 7" (bead to bead) and Toyota is fudging its marketing material as a 7" is a perceived negative,,,

No, we understand that. Bookmonke just said that he accidently measured the rim wrong (outer lip, to outer lip) at some point, which measures about 8 1/2"s apart. But, he was also smart enough to measure between the two inner most flanged bead surfaces, leaving about 7 1/2"s, which may end up being a 7 1/2 inch width rim.

There are 275/55-20 tires that are spec rated to fit on a 7" rim ( Conti Cross Contact LX20 and General Grabber HTS) to mention two(2) BUT ....
Our stock tires measure out to be section width 9.6"/tread width 7.3"/ Dia 31.6".
The two Larger tires are significantly bigger in both sect/tread width at 11.2" and 9.2" respectively.
That would present rubbing issues being that much larger in those two measurements.
Only sure bet is a wheel that will accomodate a larger tire IMO, wish as much as anyone for the answer to be different for lots of reasons.

yes, that is why I was asking about the 20x8.5 et30 4runner LE replicas, you could run a 275/55/20 and be almost exactly the same diameter as OEM except that the width gain is on the inside as it is a 30 offset. so, spacers may be needed.

the 7" OEM wheel vs 8.5" replica would move the tire 1.2" closer on the inside..

The base information here is correct but the conclusion is not. To clarify, the measuring rim width for the other 2 tires is 8.5" (pulled from Tirerack), whereas the measuring rim width for the stock tires is 7". The section/tread width will increase exponentially on a larger rim. Basically, the 11.2" and 9.2" figures are not accurate if those 2 types of tires were mounted on the stock 7" wide rims. A few guys on the forum are running LX20s without issue on the stock rims.
