2000 4runner 4cyl. auto to manual transmision swap

Hi there... Does anybody know if the clutch pedal from a 3rd gen. TAco will fit a 3rd gen.4runner.? Planning to swap the auto transmission to a manual transmission but since there is an abundance parts for tacomas, I think it would be easier to get the parts from a tacoma donor; also the required items like the driveshaft, clutch plumbing, brake pedal, shifter, console and dust boot to mention a few items.

This is something I would like to do in the future. Except I have the 3.4L. Is it pretty straight forward to switch out an auto to a manual? If anyone has done this, please jump in.

Especially if your planning on doing anything that will add significant power to the engine. I plan on doing a lot to my engine, and I figure a manual tranny wont be too bad at a salvage yard. Especially around Denver, CO. Theres a few salvage yards there that focus strictly on 4runners and toyota trucks.

Good for you... I live in florida and it's very hard to find parts for my 4runner, at least for the parts that I need for the conversion. Right now I'm trying to gather all the parts for my auto to manual conversion. Looks like they have plenty of parts in california.

The salvage yard in Denver ships nation wide im pretty sure. I found it under Denver - craigslist - car parts. If you want I can find the link. Might be a better alternative than getting them from Cali. They have a large inventory.

I would appreciate the information.!! I've been looking everyday on car-parts.com for the shifter and the clutch pedal, but it's been hard to find. Maybe around your area like you said. thanks.

if you want a manual tranny in your 4runner then just buy a new(to you) 4runner with a manual. its a nightmare to do the swap, the core support/brace behind the dash is different in a manual vs auto (that support/brace is where the pedals and linkages are hung from) and the ECU in a auto truck/4runner is different from that of the manual, meaning that you will have a nightmare just in the wiring and emissions. your 4runner wont know what to do, even if you do swap over the ECU, your wire harness is different too. not to mention haveing to rehang the tranny under the runner. I too was looking into this, and as someone who has done a few tranny swaps and motor swaps(4.7L Iforce into a 85 4x4 mini truck with the t100 5spd mated to it. -probably the most difficult one ive been a part of), id say just look for a 4runner that came from the factory with the 5spd. sorry guys i know thats not what you wanted to hear, its not what i did either but yeah. my thoughts and advice was also seconded by my father inlaw who is a senior tech at a toyota dealer here in the northwest. and he thought i was nuts to do the 4.7 swap in the mini truck.

Well, I don't know about your 4runner or whatever vehicle you might have, but mine already has the threaded nut on the upper portion to install the clutch pedal, I just have to make the holes for the clutch master cylinder. The transmission is a w59 on the manual and an A340E on the auto; the w59 mates to my 3rz, of course, you have to replace the flex plate with a flywheel which is no problem. I believe my ecu has the same elect.connectors as the manual ecu, you have to configure the pins for the manual. My conversion will be with a 4x2 4 cylinder engine, It should be easier than the 4x4. The only doubt that I have is the driveshaft length. ??? Is there anybody out there with a 2000 4runner with a 4cyl. engine and manual transmission that can measure the driveshaft length.??? I would appreciate the info.

Finally parts coming in...

I'm finally getting parts in after a long wait. I had to cancel from a supplier after the shipper lost my parts somewhere in Texas according to my supplier. I ended up reordering from another yunk yard. I'll be posting pictures later this week.

I believe the first Gen Tacoma will match parts with the third Gen Runner.
I second the notion that this swap will be a nitemare, the best solution really is to sell your auto trans truck/Runner and use that money on a manual tranny truck - unless you like hunting for parts, spending more hours fixing/repairing than actually driving and having the tools and equipment to do the job properly.

I don't see the benifit of changing trans or turning a 4cyl into V6 or going from
2WD to 4WD - in the long run you are better off buying what you want and doing relatively easy mods on said vehicle. Disregad all this if you own a garage or have easy access to parts/help...

swap??? not a problem... I actually enjoy doing it.

I love my 4runner but hate auto so..... I'll make it manual. Don't have a garage don't need one either to work on my truck, have plenty of tools and considered myself mechanically inclined, have access to web so I have plenty of info and I love to shop around, no problem here.

The new brake pedal installed from a manual donor... I eneded up swapping just the pedal without the bracket. Clutch and brake pedal with their brackets were $110.00 shipped from car-part.com Drilling the holes on the firewall for the clutch pedal will be next.
