2000 T4R a total loss... Just Bought a 2004!!!

Hello all. I have been reading this board for a little while, so I figured I might as well register.

I have owned 2 other 4runners, a 1996, and a 2000. The 2000 was recently totaled (I hit some a**hole who was driving on the wrong side of the road.)

Since I got a REALLY nice check from my insurance company, I figured I would go ahead a get the '04 V8.

It is a 2004 black SR5 V8 4WD.

It will be shipped to my house sometime next week...

I will try to post some pics as soon as I get it.


Here is a pic of the wreck... I figured the damage would be around $4-5k, but it was over $15k!!!

Sorry to see what happened to your ride. It looks like a pretty nasty collision. Was the person drunk that they were riding on the wrong side or just a jerk? Good luck with the new truck and enjoy that V8!!

Short version of what happened:

I was turning left out of a gas station onto the road, heading towards the Railroad Tracks. The guy in the Maxima was sitting in traffic coming towards the photographer (my roomate).

He was going to make a left an intersection about 30 yards behind where the pic was taken. He decided he did not want to wait in line like everyone else, so he crossed the double yellow line (into the wrong side of the road), and proceeded towards the intersection.

There was a gap in the traffic for me to turn, so silly me assumed there would be nobody travelling on the wrong side of the road. I clocked the **** out of him.

I just noticed the sign next to my car... LOL

Worst part- I got a ticket for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. He also got a ticket for illegal passing. Hopefully my ticket will get dropped in court...

Yeah that sign is pretty ironic :D

A ticket for failure to yield to oncoming traffic... which is driving on the wrong side of the road ... where you would have no way of seeing them coming :confused: If I'm the judge that ticket gets thrown out so fast it will make the cops head spin :arrow:

Failure to yield to oncoming traffic? "Oncoming" is traffic that has the "right of way", not someone making an illegal pass or travelling in the wrong direction on the roadway. You would have yielded to those coming from your right (if they were there.)
This guy is lucky to be alive because Darwin's Theory didn't catch up with him this time. I'm sure there will be other opportunities if this accident didn't knock any sense into him.
I would be scared for the safety of my kids if that cop was demoted to crossing guard. Fire him for incompetence.

It's a silly ticket that will be sorted out in court and the cops write alot of those types of tickets in those situations since they didn't witness it and have to follow procedure. It'll be dropped.

Look at the top pic and see where the right fog light is hanging at. I am surprised it got totaled since the rest of the truck is in perfect shape for 4Runner parts vultures.

Looking at it from the Insurance Companies point of view (I actually work for them), It was in their best interest to total it. Since the rest of the car was in such good shape, the salvage value was probably extremely high.

The new 4runner was delivered yesterday!!! I drove it to work this morning, and really love the V8! I am going to try and wash it and take some pics tonight.
