2000 with 130k mi, manual 4wd

Hey Folks,

I'm looking to look at a 2000 5 spd manual trans 4wd 4runner According to the dealer that has been keeping an eye out for me; this rig is "really clean". I'm not afraid of the mileage but not sure what the biggies are for this mileage.

First off will be whether there is significant corrosion; that would be a deal killer for me up here in New England.

I'm not even sure which engine it has but I'm assuming the 6 cyl since 4wd. Might have eLocker... hmmmm

According to dealer, truck has already been moved to auction yard for sale this Sat. I would need a commercial license to bid at the auction so need to decide prior.

She has quoted me nearly $8000.00 which I think can work down some.

Any thoughts?

What is fair price ? (assume its in fair to good condition with no major issues)

As absurd as the pricing can be for some 3rd gen 4runners, this is not out there. Not too bad IMHO.

Rust(ing) of the undercarriage would be my number one priority to check out. NE winter roads aren't too friendly to it.

Check the condition of the lower ball joints as well as possible leaks around the ends of the rear axle.

I just picked up a 2000 SR5 Sport with 71K Diff lock, Black. Very good condition Small dent in LH rear bumper corner. paid $9K. These things bring all the $$$ with low miles.

Be sure to check the rear differential cover...lot of NE Runners rust through there. Part of the housing and $$$ to replace.
 
she can quote him 8000 because quick Blue Book retail value is 8600. she isn't gonna pay more than probably 6500 for it, after auction and title fees she will probably be in it around 7 so hopefully you can do some work or get lucky and she is the only one standing there.

Again, without knowing which motor it has and which options, you have no idea what the value is. You can make assumptions and plug it into KBB but until you know for sure it's a crap shoot.

I should have been more clear: the dealership she works at took this rig in trade so its already "hers" so-to-speak. They are selling it at the auction. This makes me think that the 8000.00 is way high since they only gave the tradee 4 ~ 5 k at best according to NADA which these guys all use as do the banks for used car values.

The manual tranny is what is reeling me in; I know this is the last year they were available and not too common at that.

I found a single owner 2000 automatic 4WD with only 67 K mi for $7000.00 as well but I wanted the manual transmission.
 
i'd stay away

especially due to the dealers urgency to sell it and your inability to inspect or gain any info about the truck.
 
They will let me test drive and inspect it; its just getting time to get there before the auction Sat AM.

Fri PM will be the only time and that leaves little time to really get into it with good light

Are the manual trannys really that rare ?

Do the 4WD versions with manual trans usually have lockers as well?

I'll help you out a bit... since I have access to see what these auction cars are actually selling for.

In the North East, there are two that sold recently that I could find that are similar to the one you are looking at buying.

One was a 2000 V6 that was silver, in "average condition" (most fall in the category) that sold for $4,400. It had 131k miles.

There was another 2000 V6 in "above average" condition that sold for $5,400. It had 137k miles.

Just to give you an idea of what you have to work with as far as pricing goes. They'll probably get it for around 5 grand...
