2002 4Runner Lock Issue

I noticed that my wife's 4Runner locks weren't locking today. The master lock will unlock all of the locks but will not "lock" any of the doors. No noises, nothing.

I have checked the MPX-B fuse and it is good. The back window goes up and down no issues.

Any thoughts?

Does it work from the remote?

Very likely culprit here would be broken wires in the door harness to the driver's door.

I suspect like Charlie suggested. Broken wires or warn off insulation on the drivers door. As they can cause bizarre issues. Especially when they are broke or barely making contact.

On my '97, it would lock all the doors but not unlock them. In this case it was the fuse panel and module below and left of the steering wheel.

This 4Runner has a few quirks. I figured it was just a bad door cylinder. The key will unlock but will not lock. You physically cannot turn the key in the drivers side door to lock the doors. But you can turn the key once to unlock the drivers door or twice to unlock all doors.

Try lubricating the lock cylinders with powdered graphite. Mostly that will let the lock cylinder function properly unless serverly warn.. :)

I put powdered graphite into both the drivers and passengers door locks and worked it in really well.

The drivers door lock cylinder will turn right to unlock but will not turn left to lock. The passengers door lock cylinder will turn right to "lock" but will not turn left to unlock the door. any time I am trying to turn the drivers / passengers door lock cylinder to the left, it will not do its proper function.

This is with either of the keys

On a side note, it may just be a coincidence - it was hot yesterday and my wife said the drivers lock master lock button worked. Or if it is a broken wire, they happened to reconnect.

I will tear the doo apart this weekend

apparently i didnt subscribe to get instant responses. I had no idea people had responded.

Regarding the passenger door switch? The inside lock / unlock works. The passenger door lock will not unlock with the key. Windows controls work in all doors. The outside key on the drivers side works to unlock with a double tap but will not lock.
