2003 6 Disc in-dash JBL, what works with ipod...

I have searched several times and think I have even asked this before but get all sorts of answers, besides the ones i am looking for.

I have a 2003 with the JBL 6 disc in-dash. I want to be able to plug my ipod directly to the stereo, but not using the FM modulator. I have one right now, but tired of the static. I have gone to several stereo shops and just want to have it done, but they all say there are things out there, but none tell me what to get. Who can give me the easiest most direct way to get this done. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've had the PIE adapter on my 2004 single disc JBL and now on my 2005 6 disc JBL. It used to lock up on my single disk, but have had no problems at all with the 6 disc.

The PIE unit takes inputs from two RSA plugs. Buy an adapter for the IPOD that goes from RSA to a headphone jack and you're set.

There are also other options like the USA Spec, but the PIE adapter is much cheaper.

Cool. Where do I order the PIE unit? Once I have that I just need to get the RSA adapter and can just take that to the installer? I don't know why, but I can tear down nitro RC motors and such, but when it comes to wiring, i just have a hard time getting my head wrapped around it. Thanks for your help.

i have an 03 4runner limited with the JBL syn. 6 disc cd changer and rear seat audio. the pie and or usa spec aux adapters will NOT work on this model. I spent an hour on the phone with a crutchfield tech with the usa spec adapter and it wont work! if you figure something out let me know

You don't need to take it to an audio shop, unless you want to waste a few bucks and save yourself an hour of time. Here are the instructions for taking apart the dash: http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/

Everything is plug and play so no soldering involved.

Your crutchfield guy was an idiot then. I have the PIE unit and it does work with the JBL six disc changer and RSA. The thing that doesn't work is that you cannot use your external unit through the RSA headphones, meaning your IPOD cannot be listened through the headphones. I'm pretty positive it is the same for the USA Spec.

do you have an 03 or an 04. how exactly did u install yours and how do you select the extra aux input once it was all connected. the 03 would not let you play anything but the cd.

be carefull because there are differences in the 03 and 04 radio and major difference in the 05 and 06 as some will allow you to have the extra aux and the earlier ones like the 03 will not.

If you know a way around it let me know i still have my dash apart and the pieces out i have been trrying everything!

Shawnbk1 - I had the PIE insalled on a 2004 single disc JBL and now on a 2005 6 disc JBL and everything still functions including RSA. I did nothing special when installing it, just followed the limited instructions supplied with the JBL. Also to clarify, I am used the same PIE unit on the 2004 and 2005 radios.

Again, I think you were given false info. When I push the disc button on my head unit, it switches between the 6 disc changer and the PIE unit. Or if I keep hitting the button on the steering wheel to switch modes it'll go between the various radio stations, 6 disc changer, pie unit etc.
