2003 dvd rses

I recently purchased a 2003 Limited 4Runner that has the rear seat entertainment DVD player. It seems despite my attempt at being thorough I overlooked testing this prior to purchasing--the unit does not power on at all.

That being said, I've spent quite a bit of time searching in the owner's manual, service manuals, and online forums and have been unable to find much information on the DVD entertainment system for this car. At this point I can't even tell if this was a dealer/factory installed option or if this was aftermarket.

I had hoped to find a working unit on ebay or from a junk yard, but can't find anything when I'm looking online.

I'm attaching a photo--can anyone confirm if this is a factory unit or not? Also, should I just try and purchase a different DVD unit for the 4Runner and scrap this alltogether? Any help or advice is appreciated.

I can guarantee you that is aftermarket. I see the map light is working which leads me to believe something is up with the unit itself. Since it's a 2003, who knows when it was installed. It would be cheaper for you to purchase a NEW one. The connections are already there as is the wiring.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. It isn't a big deal as that wasn't a factor at all in me purchasing the vehicle, but goes to show that used cars are a gamble... So much for the Toyota 160-point inspection they performed...

Glad I could help. Toyota 160 point inspection? I know all about it, when I picked up my CPO 4Runner a few years back, oil was looked like dirty water and had a Napa Oil filter on it. So yeah, 160 point inspection my ass.

If it matters to you, you can get a new overhead DVD for roughly $200 (look on ebay).

thats a audiovox vod85. or it can be badged as a advent unit. advent is audiovox's expediter unit. nice units. if the unit doesnt power on. this is what i would do.

-pull open the fuse box door. look inside there for miscellanious wires. like ones that done belong
-pull door moulding off from driver front. betcha the power and ground wires are running down that pillar to the fuse box.
-find out where those wires from the overhead are going and check the fuse.

let me know what is happening. i have more things for you to check if its still a problem.

Thanks for the responses--I'll take a look tomorrow when I get home from work.

That being said, I went to the dealer today for a separate issue and came to find out that my washer fluid pump doesn't work, the tank doesn't hold washer fluid, and the rear wiper doesn't work...

And come to find out from the service specialist that I spoke with, the dealer never inspected the vehicle... Needless to say, I wasn't too happy with the dealer.
