2004 4runner ObdII PO430 code read

Anyone ever get this code (PO430) on a OBDII scanner? I called a local toyota dealership here and they seemed to be pretty honest with me. The message read (catalyst not running efficient on bank 2). Im hoping its the easiest and cheaper fix.
1.Easy fix is new gas cap $30
2.moderate fix is replace O2 sensors $400
3.Money raped fix is replace manifolds and or cats

Id appreciate any feed back from anyone who has had this code. My check engine light, vsc trac, and vsc off lights were all on. Ive cleared the codes since the gas cap and drove 50 miles with no lights on so far.

Gas cap

Well I replaced the gas cap via toyota certified mechanics word. He said it was the cheapest fix for that code. The read out said running lean on bank 2 and he said if my gas cap had lost its sprin (which it had) that it would cause the O2 sensor to read running lean. Im just trying the cheapest fix first. Gas cap was $30 and since I cleared codes and replaced old cap with new it hasnt kicked the check engine light or vsc lights in a hundred miles so we will see. Thanks but I hope its not the cats. If it is the cats has anyone found any headers or less restrictive manifolds so i can replace them with cats if it is indeed the cats?
 
The gas cap failing is possible, but unlikely as it would set an EVAP code before it had any possible bearing on the catalyst monitor.

90% going to be the cat. Gas cap has nothing to do with that code.

I don't know if I'd agree with it being 90% the Cat, the majority of the time it ends up being an issue with the O2 sensors starting to slow downb, become biased, and or reach that gray area before the OBDII flags it for a code. The Cat Efficency monitor is more sensitive to failure in the O2 than the O2 Monitor usually because of the O2 Sensor's influence on the EFI system. The only real way to properly qualify the sensors is with a DSO to watch the cycling voltage & amperage over a period of time to make sure it is within proper parameters.

The catalytic converter would be last on my list as they just don't go bad by themselves (have explained this many times before in previous catalyst threads and have a small explaination in the Toolbox sticky.)

Thanks for the input. Ive been looking online at all the different threads. Ive seen anywhere from (gas cap being cheapest, O2 sensor voltage, to exhaust or manifold leak being the most costly.) This code (PO430) popped up directly after installing my lift kit only 50 miles after driving on new lift. I cleared the code with my recently purchased scanner after 30 dollar gas cap and I have put 100 miles on with no lights so far. I hope they stay gone but Im thinking you are right and that it is a voltage issue with O2 sensor or air leak in exhaust. I dont hear a leak but Im hoping for the best. Thanks again.

Update: I have all four sensors out. I went to Oreilys today and they had the upstream passenger side in stock and the downstream driverside in stock. The other two sensors should be in by 230pm I will keep updates coming as to the fix. Hopefully this will help my problem of my dash lighting up like a Christmas tree. Thanks for all your help Blackworksinc.:bravo:

Good luck with that. I've been in the industry too long to trust aftermarket oxygen sensors. I'd rather pay the money for the OEM ones. :deadhorse:
 
Hope you are using Denso, which are the factory 02 sensors. I had to deal with sporadic PO420 and PO430 on mine. Replacing 3/4 of them has solved this problem. GL
 
^^^^ amazon has the best prices I've seen and pretty fast delivery too , only the front 1s are 135ish back were 68 & 71

Im replacing all four at once not one at a time. Denso, smenso...The bosch ones had a far better warranty and cost more. If everything (OEM) Toyota made was so great out 4th gens wouldnt have such crap manifold/cats all in one piece that are power restrictive non the less.

Cool, hope it holds out and works. I could get into a long sermon about why vehicles have more restricted exhaust systems and why things fail over time but I won't. Again GL
 
Bosch is a good part, the manifolds are designed that way for space/cost/bla blah reasons. It mostly boils down to emissions reasons.
 
Dealing with this myself, just was quoted $2k to replace the cat...

Any update on the sensor replacement?
