I am pulling the engine in my 2004 Limited 4X4 V6 (blown head gasket) and am following the 2004 Factory Service Manual. The FSM seems to show how to PULL the transmission which I DO NOT want to do. Can someone help me with the exact procedure I need?
From reading in the forums and the FSM, I am thinking I do not need to drain the transmission fluid. I need to remove the starter, unbolt the flywheel through the starter hole (is this even possible?) support the transmission, and then unbolt the transmission tunnel from the engine. I am pulling the wiring harness with the engine per the FSM so I will need to disconnect the harness from the transmission also.
I just want to make sure I am not missing something or not missing an easier way. I want to pull the engine because it seems to be easier when changing head gaskets and the previous owner ran it very hot so it may have cracked the block anyway.
Thanks for any advice.
