Hello,
I have the chance to buy a 4runner SR5 2wd 2004 or 2006. Both with 22kmiles and services done on time. Price differ in 3.000 bucks.
Any special consideration to decide which model should I select? I would prefer to save the 3.000 and buy the 2004 model, if the model are essentially the same in both years.

Regards

In 05 the V8 gained 35hp and the V6 got a 5 speed trans, so the 06 may be the better choice!

2WD means they have the V6 ony, right? I think the only difference is the 06 would have 5 speed trans and the updated exterior looks.

2WD does NOT necessarily mean it is a V6. You can get a V8 in 2WD only or you can get a V6 in 2WD only as well.. The difference is if you have a 4WD V6, you can put in in 2HI. If you have a 4WD V8, then it is full time AWD.

I agree with Koz, go with the '06. In addition to the exterior cladding update and the 5 speed transmission, you'll also get:

-new projector headlight design
-LED tail lights
-AUX input for head unit
-updated instrument cluster (just rearranged lights I guess)

Assuming the warranty is the same in Chile as it is in the US, then the 2006 model will have longer time left on the warranty (3 years, 36,000 miles). That way, if there are any problems, you can have them fixed under the warranty.

It's quite possible that the 2004 model is out of warranty, or it will be very close.

I think we have a plus here. Toyora warranty last 5 years or 100.000 kms, what ever occur first.

I think the trick is in the maintenance. Toyota shows a 5.000 kms maintenance interval in the warranty book.

I would go with the 2006 too. Besides the minor changes, the 2008 4Runners are almost identical to the 2006 so it should hold its value better.

That would make me lean towards the 2006.

Then you have the other factors -- how they are equipped, how well they have been maintained (just like you said), colors, how long you're going to keep it, etc.

Either one is a good choice, though.
