2004 Sport

Hey all, new to the forum and I have learned a lot reading around. I recently purchased a 04 4runner sport and love it. I checked it over and realized that 3 of my calipers were sticking so I have already replaced all 4 calipers, pads, and rotors and it runs better than ever. My issue is that I have one wheel that is pretty bad, the caliper must have been seized for a while, I cannot get this wheel clean for the life of me, the rest seemed to just wipe off but this rim after scrubbing still is black as death. Any tricks?

Bleach-White? Goo-gone? "Oops"? I dont know if any of those will take the finish fight off of the wheels or do damage, but i use bleach-white everytime i wash my 4runners, and there's been no problem.

Im hoping its not heat-related staining from the heat that is generated from the seized calipers.

BTW welcome to the forum! Post some pics of that 4runner!

eek! This is the first thing that came to my mind as well...like maybe some baked on brake dust.

OP, take some steel wool or sandpaper to an inconspicuous area and see what happens. Might give you a better idea of what you're dealing with.

Well if it still doesn't work, just Plasti-dip the wheels, just $15 would do 'em all and will look good....just a thought. See Bensanders pics above.

Pressure washer. Seriously. Find someone with a 1 or 2 hp gas powered pressure washer. A real one, not some wimpy one and go at it. If that doesn't strip that top layer of stain off, well, it isn't coming off.

Maybe try some barkeepers friend? Think it has Oxy-something acid that works pretty well on tough stains. That and a "green scrubber" might work.

I def. believe that it is some burnt in dust, it is only on the inside of the wheel but still bugs me non the less. Even with the plasti-dip option, it would not be a smooth surface by any means, it almost looks like a rusty wheel. I may just trade it out with a spare or try and find some at the scrap yard. Thanks again, I will post some pics asap.
