Hello everyone. I am about to become a dad and I was trying to install a car seat in my 4 runner but I can't seem to find the latches. I found one on the outside of the backrest but I can't find one on the inside of the backrest. Is it on the seat that actually folds out. (i think i saw a latch there)

I don't know if the '05 is different - but in my '07 there is a little plastic circle near the bottom of the seatback that shows where the latches are. If you push the back cushion up a little (between the bottom seat and the back) you can feel them. There are two on the driver side and 2 on the passenger side - or you can put the seat in the middle and use one latch from each side.

My 04 and 08 have latch anchors only for the outer 2 seats (I don't have Third row seats in either) The 4Runners with Third rows have the anchors placed differently. But only 2 sets also. No carseats should be placed in the third row if I remember right. The anchors are located right where the seatback meets the lower protion of the seat in the crease. I currently have a rear facing seat base in both my 4Runners. This is also my 3rd child, so its old hat for me.
Please read my post about placement of a car seat in the center location in the other thread and make up your own mind. The latches are too far apart for a solid placement in the middle with the latches alone. If you use the seatbelt with the latches it is my opinion it will be more than secure. Some people will say you should not use both but I see no harm in it. I am currently using both in the seat behind the driver. I am NO EXPERT. Please read the manual and make up your own mind. Congratulations!
I believe you should explore the option of using the seatbelt instead of the latch system.
From what I read in Consumer Reports some time ago, Car Seats always perform better with the use of a Seat Belt vs the Latch System.
We have always used seatbelt install vs latch. I think the Latch was more meant for consistent and ease of installation,but there are some drawbacks.
