2005 4Runner. 4hi lights blink and won't enguage 4wd system

Hope someone can help before I send to dealer.

My 2005 4Runner Sport Edition V6 will not select into 4Hi.
The lights blink yellow wheels with X in center over green 4WD lights blinking below.

2Wd and 4Lo work fine.

Tried nuetral select and reverse to get system to engage.
Nothing happens but blinking lights.

Any solutions? Called Toyota Tech at dealer and was stumped.

Aren't you suppose to put on Neutral, select 4hi, then put on drive (instead of reverse)?

Have you tried master reset? Meaning disconnecting the battery and leaving it off for 10-15 minutes?

I've saved SO much money by resetting the brain by depriving it of power...
