2005 4runner Gas Smell. Help me!

Hi guys,

My 4runner has a gas smell inside the car when I drive my car cold, uphill or when I full throttle.

I took it to my Dealership and they cant find the problem ,also my warranty is already over.

My car is running on only 31k mile and its a 2005 year.


HELP ME PLEASE!

That's not much info to work with.
Do you smell it outside the vehicle?

It is only the inside that smells. I dont know what to do.

are you talking about the smell when driving with the lift gate window down?

Do you have a 5 gallon gas can in the back?

There is nowhere that a fuel line runs thru the passenger compartment, so the leak is external and the fumes are getting sucked inside.
So you have to start looking and sniffing outside.
Near the fuel filler, near the tank, stick your head in the engine bay. All potential leak sources.
Narrow it down a little and maybe we can help more.




Or get that 5 gallon gas can out of the back.
