2005 4Runners Are Here!!!

I have a 04' AWD Limited V8... Saw the new 05' V8 #s show a 35 HP increase with the new VVT-i that was added in. Does anyone know if the current V8's trans can be switched out or upgraded for that? or is it computer driven? Find it hard to believe a 35HP gain just based on the VVT-i.

Still love my current V8 tho, and never had a prob in the snow in Tahoe, or offroading in Pismo with it.

The VVT-i does not act on the transmission, it acts on the engine timing: VVT = Variable Valve Timing.

You would not be able to upgrade your '04 to this short of replacing the engine with an '05 engine.
 
Auto (virtual) LSD on 2WD models.

The Toyota web site says:
"Auto limited-slip differential (2WD models)"
I don't know what they mean by "Auto" but I don't expect that it has anything to do with locking and would expect that it still has the TRAC system for the rear wheels.

I got my printed 2005 T4R brochure in the mail yesterday and now I see what is meant by the reference to an "Auto limited-slip differential (2WD models only)" - this is a virtual device that exists mainly in the fevered imagination of some advertising writer in the marketing department. There is no physical LSD on the 2WD models. The functionality of the ATRAC system on the 2WD models is what is being claimed to be an LSD.

So then what is the difference between the '04 and '05 2WD models in that regard?

Interesting... I might contact Toyota and confirm that. I've never heard of Toyota making absolutely no change to a system, yet claim it's all new and give it a completely new name.
 
Interesting. When I went in to the dealership the other day to look at the 05's to replace my busted-up 04 they said the new V8's would be arriving sometime around November. I hope I can wait that long to get a new truck, because its either going to be an 04 V8 or an 05 V8 - decision mostly depends on time.
 
Well our 05 4Runner V8 2WD Limited that we've had on order for a few months now will supposedly be here within the next week. Then again you know how those sorts of things go... could end up still being months. I'll post pics the moment I set eyes on it, though.:D
 
My dealer tells me they can get me an 05 SE 4x4 V8 here, with all my preffered options AND leather in <10days.
I wanna hear about the v8!

I would be carefull about believing what a car salesman tells you. To get a vehicle to you in less than 10 days they would have to get it from some other dealer in the US and I don't think there are any V8s here yet. More likely, as soon as the salesman got your deposit money the timeline would start lengthening.
 
my 05 sr5 4wd

Ok my 05 is all black no silver accent nothig accept the grill bumpers match the body . mine is also the v6 which has MORE horse power but LESS torque than the v8 . ANd let me tell you folks this thing can accelrate VERY nicely . I forget im in a truck all the time . We wont get into how WELL it corners either :)The v8 are all the time 4wd the v6 have the hi lo 4wd option on the dash and it works flawlwessly . JUst dont switch it to 4wd on dry pavement or go more than 65 mph . It dont like it !!!!!!!

05 V8 is 270HP, 25 more than the v6

V8s also has hi lo switch on dash, this has nothing to do with part-time or full-time 4wd difference between the v6 and v8s.

well that would mean more lies told to us by crooked or incompetant dealers . Cause he repeated to me twice that the v6 had more horse but less torque . Also i should read what i type cause i didnt meant to imply the v8 didnt have hi lo on the dash but that it was 4wd all the time and the v6 isnt .
that aside i raced an o5 v8 today and must be mines lighter or something cause he couldnt keep up . and we tried twice . he wasnt happy only thing i can think of is his had 1000 more miles on it oh and it was a 2mile stretch we did both times up and back

Inexcusable IMO. Just in case you don't know, what he said holds true for the 2004.
