Just called both dealerships and neither has a single 2005 V8. Steve at Toyota of Orange confirmed the time as January 2005 when they will have their first shipment of V8s.
BTW: North County Toyota was kind of sneaky. This guy with a heavy spanish accent told me they had them at first, then when I asked other details (hp, torque, etc..) he had no idea what they were compared to the 2004s. Then I talked to his supervisor and THAT guy confirmed no V8s till January. Kinda proves the stereotype that salesmen will tell you anything to get you into the showroom..! :bash:

do Sport Editions have a leather option?
what are the popular aftermarket "fixes" for 4runners....?
do most ppl lift any or just slap on 265/70/17 AT's and go with that?
anyone use flowmasters or aftermarket exhaust? If so, how does it sound...ive never pictured a 4runner to have a deep roar, but then again, im new and used to tahoe's and jeeps.
anyone use winches or go with just grille gaurds?

Nice that the 2005 offers a bigger V8. The 2004 V8 was a tad on the weak side, but that has come to be expected from Toyota. It is well known, that you don't want to put out too much HP and stress something, cause that would ruin the reliabily thing and blow the resale value. Don't ya think? BTW, did they pretty up the wart for 2005?

Sorry took so long to reply . Turns out it was an 04 i raced with the the body upgrades the 05's have . I assumed with out asking , my bad . In case you all want to know . I have had this 5 weeks now and have 8800 miles on it . We are taking a trip from NY to OR via 4 national parks . We are currently in Blythe Ca on our last leg to OR (going to Joshua tree nat park to camp for 3 days or so ) . We have spent $358.68 in gas and am still getting 20.3 MPG and ave 44 mph . Have seriously tested the 4 wheel drive in hi and lo with awsome results . We have 600 lbs of camping gear inside , 150 lbs of gear on the roof rack in a THULE carrier , 2 mountain bikes on a carrier attached to the to hitch and 2 medium to large black labs in the back seat !!!! In 1120 miles she gets her 4th oil change and her 10,000 mile checkup !!

Good gawd Toy that rocks! I've had my 04 since March and am only now approaching 10k miles, with only one trip to Fruita, CO from Austin. Just curious, are those mileage numbers real numbers you calculated, or numbers from the computer? 4th oil change! Ever thought about going with synthetic oil?
2005 4-RNR
Good morning, I received a 2005 4-rnr for Xmas...and BOY! do I love it....
It is Salsa Red Pearl, Sport Model with hood scoop, and 4 x 4, of course.
It replaces my 2000, SR5, 4 x 4, Millenium Silver 4-rnr. which I dearly loved (only had 25,000 miles on it).
I think the handling is better than my 2000, the brakes have a fab. feel, it feels less tippy, takes corners superbly, has great/easy controls of all kinds on the dashboard, and on and on and on....
Before this I had 3 new Ford Explorers, and for me, there is no comparison.
One more thing, I live on the end of a 80' drop on the water, so a 4 x 4 is a necessity for me, and I have always really used it. Without the 4 wheel drive engaged on my 2000, it was the lightest of trucks, which meant no climbing up the mountain with it in bad weather with the 4 x 4 engaged. The Ford Explorers were more or less the same.
I had a lst. in my new 4-runner! It went up the hill during a storm, with 2-wheel drive....just like driving up on a spring day!! This was simply unbelievable!
Ok...enough gushing...
Something my truck came with is
"Touch of Class", which, I am told, means the truck never has to be waxed, and if the finish fades or has stains that cannot be easily removed, I simply bring it back to the local dealer for refurbishment. The same is true for the interior of the car.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm finding this one hard to believe.
