I got a mount and holder from here Device Holders and Dashboard Vehicle Mounts*-*ProClip Car Mounts for Mobile Phones, Tablet, and Handheld Devices - they have very good reviews and are supposed to be very solid mounts. The part I like best about them is that they don't go on your windshield but on one of the air vents.

1. So when your music is on and you get a call, the music automatically mutes? Thats correct, yes.
2. Second question, what brand BT mic did you get? (I'm assuming you got one) For the time being I'm just using the one that came with the bluetooth kit from GROM. Works ok. Room for improvement of course.


3. How does coPilot compare to the Google nav in terms of POI's, guidance efficiency, Google is my favourite and does a small area of maps offline. You just save it to your cache. However CoPilot is my favourite offline gps. I like it better than tomtom or garmin straight up. You can read all the reviews in the android marketplace or online.
4. and how current is it? Frequent updates. I forget which map provider they use. You will have to check.
5. Are updates included or you have to pay a subscription? If memory serves me correct its a one off payment. Wouldnt be more than like 10 bucks.

I didn't know you had an iPhone, Tablet Talk only works for an Andriod phone and tablet.

However since you got the BT Dongle with your GROM unit, then if you have guidance on your nav, the sound should go out to the speakers, at least that's what the guy at Grom Audio told me.

6. Can you please do me a favor and test this out soon? I would be sorely dissappointed if it doesn't work like that. I should have some time tonight to test it..hopefully. Will let you know.

7. Last question - does your truck have a 6 disc CD changer or is it like mine without a CD changer? I'm now concerned I won't be able to use this device in my truck because it did not come with a CD changer... This concerned me at first too. However no need to worry. It still works even if your unit does not have the 6 disc changer. Mine doesn't. For whatever reason there was stock harness going to that port on my H/U anyway..

Thanks for taking the time to answer all my gazillion anal retentive questions! I really appreciate all the time you spent here helping out a fellow T4R owner.

As you can imagine, this mod has nothing to do with the money, but more so with the increased functionality and added features the mod brings.

I'll check out the copilot link you pasted in above. Looks like I may by buying that soon. I've seen reviews for NavFree and CoPilot but wasn't sure which one was worth getting.

The fact that you prefer it to Garmin and TomTom is already telling me it should be good as I'm familiar with the standalone Garmin units (I've had two in the last couple of years and they're ok - definitely better than the in-dash nav from Pioneer).

Thanks again and looking forward to your findings regarding the nav giving guidance and the audio coming out from the speakers of your truck using the BT functionality on the Grom unit.

Yup, got it installed and it works great, but it's very finicky. I find that. press the AM and then FM buttons and finally CD for the device to know that I've connected my phone to the micro USB cable. So for example if you turn off the car and turn it back on a couple of mins later and did not unplug your phone, it doesn't automatically start playing the song it was playing before, I have to go through that whole procedure of pressing AM then FM and finally CD before it starts playing again. Very annoying to say the least. Do you have the same issue?

Other issue I have is that if I'm using the navigation and the screen is on, my phone doesn't get charged. It just barely keeps up with the drain and maintains the charge. So if my phone is dying, forget about using it as the device charges very slowly.

Damn Im sorry it didn't work out for you.

Mine starts playing from the song I turned it off from, but the beginning of it. No big deal to me. What you could do is bluetooth your music and that way its going straight off your phones music list.

As far as charging goes, I'm pretty sure everytime you don't recharge via a wall socket it is going to be a lot slower regardless, due to voltages. You could try going directly from your cars 12v socket to your device. USB charging I think by memory is only 1 amp where from an AC source is 2amps.

It might be worth experimenting with a product like this to give you double the current:

Do some research on usb charging vs AC charging.. it might help give you some extra juice. Theres probably a lot of threads about ipad charging in the car where people would have the same problem.
