2006 4Runner changes

Sorry guys. I'm usually a stickler for detail but somehow missed the fact that prior to 2006 the V6 and the V8 had different hitches. Part of the problem is that in some of the Toyota 2006 literature the $430 tow option is referred to as an "upgrade". From what? No hitch at all? Interesting that the hitch is now an "option". I'll bet you'll look far and wide before you'll find a 4-Runner without one. It's more like "this year we're gonna charge you extra for what you used to get for free."

What forum did you get these pics from? I've looked around but I can't find any better pics than these.

I think these are from the auto sections of MSN... I believe I saw them once....

Aawwwww! There are so many new goodies I would love to have had available in my '05 SE. At the top of the list would have been the power seats - although, once you've configured the seats, how often does anyone actually go back and change it. The MP3 option is nice, took a while since the other makers had it incorporated last year. Plus I already replaced my stock radio.

Hmmm...guess the only thing I need is Bluetooth support and the 18" wheels.

Check out the updates on toyota.com 2006 4Runner page. They have new exterior and interior pictures. Also, the 360 view shows the interior of a 2006 Sport. I wonder if you don't have to get the nav to get bluetooth? The sport shown on toyota.com has the bluetooth button on the steering wheel and it has the JBL radio.

I don't think my 2006 Sport has anything on it having to do with Bluetooth and I know I didn't get the JBL radio which I am not happy about. Glad to know the website FINALLY has some 2006 info and pictures will check it out right now.

I'm not sure if this issue has already been talked about, but why does the Toyota website list the '06 V8 horespower at 260 instead of 270 like the '05's?? Torque is down too. Did they actually de-tune the engine for '06? Or is this just a more conservative figure?

In the race for 300+ horsepower that seems to be going on in the SUV segment right now, I wonder why Toyota would actually list less.

Check it out.

Also, I just completed the rear bumper lens conversion over the weekend. I love the new look!! It took longer than it should have due to poor constrcution of the bulb sockets "pigtails". The contacts on the dual element light bulbs weren't making contact in the sockets, which made me think I was wiring them wrong. ARRRRGH!! Sorry no pics, I don't have a digital camera *yet*. But I would be willing to answer any questions since it is fresh in my head.

Nevermind. I just found the answer on another thread. I love the search option on this forum. I'll still take pride in knowing that I have 10 more HP than the new models, even if they do measure it different :)

Can one of the mod's do me a favor

Can you take all of the pictures so far from this thread and throw it into one long picture post like I've seen done in the past.

I just ordered and 06 and the wife hasn't really seen the changes, I would like to show her real quick and she doesn't have the patience to sit through all the pages of this, maybe could someone put all the changes that we'd notice on that same post.

Shouldn't be a big deal right, could someone do that for us.

Thanks,

T

I test drove a 2006 V8 Limited today and I was impressed with most of the upgrades. There were a few things I was disappointed in though!

To start, the engine and transmission is the same as that in my 2005. Both trucks have equal power. The 18'' rims looked great on the Limited and really gave it a spory look. I liked all of the exterior improvements after seeing one in person. Once I entered the 2006, I thought the leather was a lot softer (more Lexus like) and the front seats were a lot more comfortable than those in my 2005. There are no optiron guages and I wasn't too happy with the new layout even though it looks neater without the reset buttons on the side. Another thing that was noticeable was the thicker glass. Once I closed the windows, you literally heard nothing that was happening in the outside world. I didn't like the look of the new simulated black wood trim. To be honest, it looked very cheap. My tester was equipped with the JBL Synthesis radio with 6-disc indash CD player. It supported SAT radio and an iPod input (or other device) but it lacked the RDS (radio display system) capability which I was very shocked to see. That was a big disappointment for me. When I finally hit the road, the ride was the same. This Limited lacked the rear air suspension and XREAS so I really can't give a fair comarisson. All I can say is that this thicker glass makes a MAJOR difference in muffling road and wind noise. The new tires were quiet as well. Overall, I was pretty impressed with these upgrades. The things I really didn't like was new wood trim, no RDS capability on the premium radio, and the new cluster layout. Just so everybody knows, I didn't test drive a 2006 because I am getting rid of my 2005. My parents were thinking of upgrading to a 2006 so I had to do a favor!! My 2005 is staying in my possession!!! :D

The dealer I went to had all of the 2006 colors on the lot. Unfortunately, I didn't plan ahead so the only camera I had on me was my cell phone. They are far from good, but here are pictures of the 2006 colors.

Let me just tell you that I was very disappointed when I saw this color. I thought Nautical Blue was going to be a bright blue. This is a very dark blue that looks like black when light doesn't hit it.

Salsa Red- 2006 SR5

Titanium Silver- 2006 SR5

Shadow Mica- 2006 Sport

This was my favorite color by far. It was a blend of green, grey, and black different colored flakes in the paint. You have to see it to appreciate it. A Shadow Mica Sport is probably the best looking 4Runner out there.

Mark86, thanks for the pics! What is the biggest difference between the Galactic Gray and Shadow Mica? I wish they had offered the Shadow Mica on the '05's...

Galactic Gray is a mix between silver and gray. The shadow mica is more of a green, brown, and black mix. You really have to see it to appreciate the color. There are also bright flakes within the paint that make it stand out. The Shadow is a lot darker than the galactic gray. You have to see a 2006 Sport in shadow. The blacked out headlights and dark tubular running boards/roof racks really look great with this color!

ive been driving a 06 4runner demo v6
and i own an 05 4runner v8 and i usually park them side by side
im convinced they made changes to the 06 mostly for trim identification
if it wasent for my black mirrors you wouldnt know the difference
between mine and a limited
instead the new 06 sr5 has chrome handles and grill

Just bought an 06 Shadow Sport V8. Should have it delivered by the end of the week. I will post pics when I get it.

I saw a Sport in Shadow at the dealer this past weekend and it looked very sharp. The Shadow blended in very nice with the darkened headlights and shadow roof racks/running boards on a Sport. Can't wait to see some pictures when you get yours!

Saw a Shadow Mica SR 5 on the showroom floor today. It looked to me just like a dark charcoal metallic. It looked OK but I would not have looked at it twice had I not read the above comments. Probably looks a lot different in the sunlight.

In my opinion, the Shadow Mica is a nice dark color, but why did they put so much metal flake in it? If it were in water, the trout would be swarmin"!
