2006 4Runner changes

Having the option of getting Bluetooth sounds attractive to me. If it works with my cell phone and not just the Nav system.

The thicker glass to reduce wind noise is great! That has been one of my only minor complaints on my 03 Sport.

The audio plug is a plus too. Now my wifes iPod can be used a little more often.

I'm impatiently waiting to order an 06.

It's interesting that they took some things away -- the trailer hitch on V6 models, the tonneau cover on the SR5, the cassette player, rear-seat audio, etc.

All those upset about all these enhancements that are on the '06, but not the '03/'04/'05: relax and consider that most of us have had months, if not years, of enjoying our 4Runners. Over the last three years, the 4Runner hasn't had a year where it was a complete carryover. If you kept waiting for "next year's" model, you'd never buy one.

Good point, I would not be happy losing the trailer hitch on V6 models, the tonneau cover on the SR5, and the cassette player. What do you do with all the cassette tapes accumulated over the years? I

Since they made the 4Runner so much more luxurious and identical to the GX (memory seats, wood trim, projector headlights), I wonder what changes will take place on the GX470?

Maybe they will do away with the black wood treatment in the GX sport. It looked so close to the 05 limited anyway

Per the press release from Toyota:

The 4Runner 4x2 will carry a base MSRP ranging from $27,635 for the SR5 V6 with a five-speed automatic to $36,110 for the Limited grade V8 with a five-speed automatic. The base MSRP for the 4Runner 4x4 ranges from $29,910 for the SR5 V6 with a five-speed automatic to $38,385 for the Limited grade V8 with a five-speed automatic. Total 4Runner average MSRP increase is $150 or 0.5 percent.

Sounds like the changes are more than $150, that makes me wonder what else they have taking away to come up with such a small increase in price to make up for things like power seats.

I still wouldnt trade my o4 in for a new one, i love it so dearly especially with all my goodies ive done to it. i personally like the more squared wheel wells and front end better than that new hilux but thats just my opinion.

I wonder why Toyota has deleted the trailer hitch for 2006 on the V6's? Maybe an option instead?

They are probably trying to steer 'force' more buyers into the V8 option for towing. I use my V6 for towing quite often, and it has been up to the task every time.

Now if they would just offer the part-time 4WD behind the V8 I would consider trading in my '03.

Most owners will never use the hitch. It is optional on a lot of other SUVs. A hitch & harness is a easy dealer add on. As a option, it will keep cost down.

No cover makes ZERO sense. Everyone uses it.

It might be an 'easy' dealer add on, but I bet it will cost a lot more than the factory install. And, I use mine all the time.

Aren't the receiver hitches a standard item currently?.

I'm thinking that Toyota is just making the receiver optional on the '06 V6 models.

In which case, I'm sure that plenty will be spec'd with that option from the factory.

It's looks as if the tail, stop, and side marker lights are now going to be LED type bulbs for sure.

The bluetooth and voice activation for Nav and phone functions sounds great to me.

You know, even the round fog lights in squarish openings doesn't look too bad in this photo. At first I was like "that's gonna look crappy". I think I can live with those.

I assume we will not be able to distinguish fellow 4Runner's that easy now. There will probably be no more orange DRL's by the fog lights because of this redesign. I hope they aren't replaced with the boring high beam DRL's! :nono:

As for the pricing, the SR5 is the price leader of the group. The base MSRP for it actually went down $150-200. As for the others, expect price increases to range anywhere from $350-$900. I can't remember the specifics, but the Sport is the one that's going to have the largest price increase.

Exact pricing should be out in the next month or so.

When they first posted the hilux surf and commented that
would be the 06 4. I had to go look at the front of the
4 I've never really paid that close of attention to the grille,
fog lights. It is a very minor grille freshing. But the interior
refinements would be most attractive

I really like it. The new grill gives it a more "truckish" look I think. Too bad I didn't wait for the '06 :bash:. Some of them extra options would be really nice. I think I still like my SE wheels better. 18's would be nice but I like the design of the SE's better. I think I'd like the tube steps on the SE better too (as far as looks go). Can't wait to see if the projection's will fit in our housing!

no, that has nothing to do with the 4Runner. I think it was mentioned in another thread that the fortunner might actually be the next gen highlander. The picture I posted a few posts up is what the '06 4Runner will look like. :)
