2006 4Runner changes

Since I've worked at this dealership (5 1/2 years), I've only seen one, new-to-the-model Land Cruiser buyer. All of the LC's we sell are to people that just buy Land Cruisers and nothing else. There's one guy that comes in and trades every couple of years that has about 3 or 4 of them, one for every one of houses across the country.

Land Cruiser buyers are VERY loyal. Toyota knows they don't sell too many of them, so I don't think they're in a big hurry to get the volumes up and start pushing them out the doors. It's just like Chevy with the Corvette. GM doesn't make all that much money on Vettes. That's why they were considering dropping the Vette a couple years ago. But, when you have an icon of a certain car line, the worst thing you can do is get rid of it.

Basically, the Land Cruiser is more of a status symbol than a value driven product. I wouldn't expect to see them change that for quite a while. And I have to disagree with some of you. If you've ever driven a Land Cruiser for an extended period of time, you'd somewhat see the value. I've driven every Toyota out there, including 2 of my own 4th gen 4Runners, and I don't think they come close to riding like a Land Cruiser. Just an opinion, though.

Drives like a "BIG" luxury vehicle. Does not deflect bumps any better then the 4runner SE with Xreas shocks.

I would be willing to bet that you will get your choice of either XM or Sirius. Right now, the Camry, Solara, and the Avalon have the option of either one, so I'm assuming Toyota will start to do that with all their vehicles. Just a hunch, though! As for the stereo setup, ALL Limiteds come standard with the 6 disc in-dash CD Changer head unit!

Also, the rumor about V6 Sports not having X-REAS suspension is COMPLETELY UNTRUE. They will continue to have it as standard equipment.

One more thing, for 2006, the 4Runner will have the option for a FRONT SKID PLATE (Option Code "S0"). I'm sure it'll be a popular option!

Would this be a beefed-up skip plate or the standard one that they come with now?

From my understanding, since it's an option that's shown on the sticker, it will be a beefed up, Tacoma/Sequoia/Tundra type skid plate. Maybe Toyota has visited this board and found all the Tacoma skid plate retrofits that have been going on.

Any idea if this would fit on a 2003-2005 4Runner? I am thinking of buying a 2005 Tacoma skid plate and making it fit on my 4Runner because I really like the look. Maybe this would be a better and easier option!

2006 GX Updates

I found the upgrades that will be on the 2006 GX470. Basically, the major thing is Lexus Link. This is a system that is sort of like Onstar and BMW Assist where you can make reservations and they automatically send the cops and EMS when the airbags deploy or the panic alarm is set off. Here are a few other minor things listed at clublexus.com:
-4 coat hooks standard (2 at second row and 2 in cargo area)
with 3rd row seat option, however, only 2 coat hooks (at 2nd row)
-New parking brake grip with stitching
-Exterior Color Changes
-1D4-Titanium Metallic replaces 1F0 Silver Pine Metallic
-4R4-Savannah Metallic replaces 587 Dorado Gold Pearl
-8S6-Nautical Blue replaces 8R4 Blue Meridian Pearl
-6T7 Cypress Pearl is an addition for a 7th color

After reading that, it seems that the Lexus is not getting nearly as many updates as the 4Runner. You can get many of the "Lexus exclusive" options like voice/bluetooth nav, memory seats, wood trim, etc. on the 4Runner Limited.

I was just browsing around the Lexus website and found that they have all the information on the 2006 GX470. Basically, it looks like it went unchanged except for a few new colors. Here is a link: http://www.lexus.com/models/gx/index.html

I can't wait for them to update the 4Runner page on Toyota's website! It is time already to unveil the 2006!

2006 change

Only thing I see that pisses me off is now offering Sat radio from the factory! The SWINES.... I really wanted that on my 05.. I hate the add on stuff... for Sat radio. I hope like hell we can just swap it out from the 06 and presto have a FACTORY setup. As for all the other stuff.. nothing sounds all that fantastic. Lets face it people... this happens almost every year. I love my 05. Could a few new items be nice? Well yes... on the other hand if you liked your Runner when you bought it then you should still like it. My 05 is the best driving runner I've ever had and one of the better driving vehicles I've ever owned. It's a pleasure driving this truck and always look forward to going some where with it. I'll just hang with my 05 until 08 and then see what wonders Toyota has brought us.......... Any runner is far better than almost any other SUV out there.....

The information on Toyota's website should come out any day. All 2006 Lexus models are listed on the Lexus website. Every morning, I always check to see if they updated the 4Runner page.

As for the 2006 4Runner's, the dealer told me that they should arrive within 1-2 months. They didn't have any allocated to them yet so that means the earliest they could come in would be mid October. Production of the 2006 4Runner must have started in August if I had to guess.

Some people have seen them in South California. It has been presented on July 17, so they produce it since July.

I thought that somebody checked this information and really saw them. Looks like they have it just on-line.

Release date?

Salesman at both Longo Toyota and Carson Toyota indicated late labor day weekend on the lot. Longo just indicated late in the weekend, and Carson indicated the 5th. Reliable sources in the past but remember thay are salesmen.

I work in Long Beach CA next to the berth where Toyota/Lexus
arrive by ship. Today I saw the new 4Runner as the Longshoremen sped past me.
I noticed the SE did not have roof racks or running boards, they must be adding them at the dealer or the port facilities.
None seemed to have DRL and they no longer have the silver panels on the bumper front and rear.
I didn't care much for the front bumper....
Tailights no longer have the pink tint, they definitely look better,
Wish I had the projection headlights on mine..

I was thinking of this for a few weeks. I talked to the service guy in dealership, and he told me that he didn't see the new head unit yet, but if it has the same dimensions, same outside shape to fit in a dashboard, he thinks they can do it. It may cost more if they would need to rewire something, but he said everything is doable if it fit.
