I'm pretty sure all the JBL systems were digital. I think that was the "up sell" when going JBL, along with the 4 extra speakers. I had the 2004 single disc JBL and now have a 2005 6 Disc JBL and they both sound the same.

You were able to drop in an 05 JBL to replace your 04 JBL without having to switch out the AMP? I am just wandering ... since I am selling my 05 I would like to know whether to tell people with 03's and 04's whether or not it will work with their system...
BTW : My assumption that the 05's are digital and the 03's and '4s are analog comes from the fact that oemvalue.com sells two different packages for their nav system. The first package is for "applications with the analog JBL sound system" and the second package is for "applications with the digital JBL surround sound system". Someone has previously told me that the 03's and 04's required package one and the 05's and 06's required package two --- thus leading me to believe that only the 05's and 06's were digital.

Yup, just swapped out my JBL unit with the 2005 one. I didn't have to fiddle with the external at all. You may just want to have a disclaimer saying they should check to make sure this will fit their application. I documented my swap on the board (if you're interested, just do a search) and it did involve swapping some other componenets but not the AMP.
