2006 Headlight Conversion Questions

I want to do the 2006 projector headlight swap so I can put HIDs in but I have a few questions.
Being that a set of headlights run around $500 form the dealership. Has anybody used aftermarket headlights (not Toyota brand)? If so what brand? Any problems thus far?
For the wiring harness needed to utilize the 06 headlight/DRL, is there a thread that I am missing with pictures of the install or a wiring diagram somewhere?
Also I cannot seem to find an item number for the filler panel under the headlight pre-painted in Delgado Gold.

I looked into doing the swap before I went to HIR lamps. For the filler panel, you'll find that they are really, really expensive (especially if they don't come painted). I didn't think of this idea until after I had already ordered brand new headlights for my '04 so it was too late but if I was looking at it now, I would go a different route.

I would look into doing the satoshi grill mod and then using some of the same wire mesh under the headlights for the filler panel and make it big enough to fill the triangle gap. It'd be much cheaper and, in my mind at least, look pretty cool.

As for color matching - it may be an issue of Toyota not continuing the same colors after 06. You may have to go to the dealership, order it unpainted and then have it color matched.

You could try RockAuto.com for head lamps - prices are better, but quality are hit and miss. Sealing correctly will be your main concern.

I would suggest you pick up a cheap pair of 03-05 headlights for $100 total and do a retrofit on your originals. Having the spare lights will let you work at you own pace.

Look into theretrofitsource.com for parts and guidance. Output will be better and you can do it for a lot cheaper. Barebase: Morimoto Mini Complete Kit is $270.
