2006 HP Torque ratings dropped for Toyota vehicles

Has anyone checked out the Toyota Website lately? Appearently the power ratings for the 2006 Avalon, Tundra, Camry etc. have dropped quit a bit. My guess is Toyota is now adopting the new SAE Certified Power ratings like GM and Honda. Seems like Toyota and Honda have been over rating while GM was underating their figures.

Tundra VVT-I V8: 271 hp @ 5400 rpm Down from 282hp;
313 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

Tundra VVT-I V6: 236 hp @ 5200 rpm Down from 245hp;
266 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm Down from 282lb-ft

New Avalon: VVT- V6 3.5: 268 hp @ 6200 rpm Down from 280hp;
248 lb.-ft. @ 4700 rpm

I read somewhere that they are using a new SAE ratings system that uses accesories attached to the engine, IE A/C, PS, ETC. The old way was using the engine with out these attached.

I doubt that Toyota has been overating their vehicles in comparison to other manufacturers, as Toyota vehicles have traditionally performed very well on average for their (often lower) power ratings.

So does that means we can blow away the 2006 T4R with our 03-05 4runners? That would really be funny.

I would like to have more HP in the 2006 if it comes with a higher sticker price.

Atleast they get projector headlights so we can see them in our rearview mirror as we run right past them.

Well, if you look at Chevy's website on the Trailblazer, the same 4.2 Vortec inline 6 now puts out 291HP using the new power rating certification. Previously it was rated at 272 for the same engine.

Yeah, they're using the new SAE ratings. It doesn't mean the 2006 models have less power, it's just that the numbers are different due to different testing methods/regulations.

in the top thread, there was a post that had a link to another board regarding changes to the '06 T4Rs. anyway, in that link, there was a post w/ six PDFs about the new T4Rs. on one of the PDFs, it had the torque + hp ratings of the '06 models and it said SAE, blah blah blah, and the ratings were lower than what toyo had said previously about the 4runners.

Yes his is from a 2003 specification sheet. I would like to try and calculate it given the volume and stroke length. I will need to research this on the web.

Ok......but the fact that the 4Runner weighs more, has (apparently) less power, but equals or betters the performance figures = my point

The fact that chevy's rating went up and Toyotas went down further exagerates the discrepency......

i have no idea where the guy got those PDFs from. it's in this link: http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=64196 and was posted by user: Rivalred. i think the thing that caught my attention the most was the drop in HP + TQ. i'm so untechnical when it comes to the truck so i had no idea the compression ratio was wrong.
