2006 - two different front ends?

I purchased a 2006 V8 SE low miles earlier this summer and have used this forum to learn a lot about this vehicle's ins and outs. I plan to have this rig for a long time, so of course after reading the various build threads on here, I have seen a few upgrades that I want to do down the line; one of which is an HID kit.

On to my question...were there two different front ends (bumper, headlights, grille) made for 2006 T4Rs?

My T4R is the one on the left with the reflector style headlights and DRL in the bumper next to the fogs in the attached image.

The vehicle I bought was in a "minor" front end collision with repairs performed by Toyota. The only body panel that does not have the same VIN is the front right fender. Did someone save some cash and perform the repairs with <2006 parts? Why do I find other 2006 SE similar to mine online and why do I find others that show the different front end as shown in the right photo? THESE PHOTOS ARE TAKEN FROM GOOGLE SEARCH FOR REFERENCE!

In the long run, I understand I will need to get some projector style headlights if I want the HIDs to prevent blinding other drivers. I just am a little confused as to the 2006 body style change cutoff?

I appriciate all the knowledge this site has given me and look forward to some insight into my question. Thanks!

from this angle it looks like an 05 on left , on right is 06+. check the fender flairs for flat at top or more rounded like the pic on right. if you are sure that you purchased it as an 06, & truly prefer the 06 stuff, not that it will work but id go back to where it was purchased & tell them it should have been repaired with 06 parts since thats what you thought you were buying. of course you can do a swap yourself if you dont mind spending the cash.

yes there was a style change in 4th gen....2003 to 2005 or apparently 2006 1/2 which is the style you have and then 2006-2009 they changed the style to the picture on the right....put the DRLs in the headlights, made the headlight projectors and the fogs reflectors...you cant tell but the front ends are significantly different...aside from the obvious....i had a 2004 sr5 and now i have a 2006 limited

maybe youre being lied too but....2006 was the style change.....the one you bought is only gotta be a 2003-2005 unless they really did do a style change in mid 2006...i have never read or seen anything about that...i would say check the vin with toyota

The VIN on my vehicle reflects 2006. I have the LED rear lights. I have reviewed this site: Toyota 4Runner History 2006 and have everything else as marked by the 2006 changes! All the way down to the "comp" button in the mirror which is highlighted as changed in 2007.

The repairs were performed before I bought it - i did not buy from the dealership that made the repairs so I'm stuck with what Ive got. Im just very confused because it is a 2005/2006 hybrid. Very weird...

Someone probably got in an accident on the test drive or something. And since it was so new at the time, it got fixed with the old parts. Interesting, yours is a one-off.

Did you say you have LED tails?

That's odd. You also have the 03-05 roof rack & running boards. The 06+ SEs have tubular rack & nerf bars. I'd like to see the rear fenders too, because the pic appears to be all '03-05 body styling.

You're sure the VIN says its a '06? What about the door sticker, when was it Manufactured?

It really looks like an '04-05 SE rather than a '06, the Grill, Front bumpers, Lights all look to be pre-facelift.

Photos of my rig

Here are some photos from the side and of the front and side. I cannot tell even if the fender flairs are different (IE front is 2005 style and back is 2006)?

I do have tubular running boards and roof rack. I aslo have LED rear - no secondary red lights in the bumper as seen in <2006 models.

One owner prior to me, other than the broker I bought it from. There was even plastic on the CD changer and over the temp/range cluster.

Like I said, all VIN stickers match EXCEPT front right fender. Pretty weird...

Sorry for the confusion; the first two set of photos I posted were from google. The second set is MY rig. Sorry about that.

it seems like someone took a 2006 and put the 2003-2005 front end on it.....i was gonna put a 2006 front end on my 2004 until it got totaled and i bought a 2006

You need to do some serious research on that truck.....if you go to http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home and register and you can find repairs and other stuff from toyota

I recieved the carfax and have registered at the toyota.com/owners and everything checks out. I purchased the vehicle 50 miles after the repairs.

One owner who bought the vehicle at Stevenson West in Colorado and serviced it at Stevenson East. Average miles per year was about 5,000 - I bought it with 28500.

Before I purchased it, I had it checked at Stevenson East. I brought it to their attention that it appeared to have been in an accident due to the VIN conflict on the fender. They said the repairs were performed as they would have done them.

I then had the vehicle checked after purchase at Pederson Toyota of Fort Collins, CO and they said everything looked sound.

Mind= blown.

Fhe front looks like a 03-05 but from the fenders it looks 06+ plus it has the hump spoiler. Can you get a pic from strait behind so we can see the rear bumper?

Ah! Now that makes more sense...

From the fender flares and tubular accessories that is definitely a 2006 but the bumper, head lights, & grille are definitely '03-05. I didn't think that would even fit properly but it looks like it does.

Here are some more detailed views. I'm kinda glad you all have shown a little confusion, too! I appriciate everyone's feedback in helping me solve this little riddle.

It's got to be that someone put the front end facia from an <06 on here for the repairs. Like I said, I have check it inside and out and everything looks to be up to par. I did however notice that there is an additional plug outlet in my headlight arness possibly where the 06+ DRL connect. I have not checked if it currently gets voltage when the vehicle is on or in any of it's light settings.

Again, thanks for the help with this question!

Whoever repaired your truck deserves to be fired.

I hope it was an honest mistake in not knowing the 06+ details... otherwise it's pretty scarry the repair guy didn't catch this.

I'm happy with the two Toyota dealerships inspections and mostly my own. I kind of like the older style front bumper with the 06+ others. Does make the HID upgrade add a few more steps...

they can fit properly....in order to change an 06 to an 05 you need the headlights, grill, pieces under the headlights, bumper, drls and fogs

Everything from the front doors forward is 03-05 style including both front fenders, hood, grill, bumper, lights, etc..

Quite a major oversight by whoever made the repairs.
