2006 V6 head gasket question...

Alright, so I have about 85k on my 2006 V6 'runner and it runs great. Blackstone oil analysis recently confirmed all is well (knock on wood) but I am seeing a LOT of head gasket threads pop up in recent months.

I have seen some members state the early 2006 V6 trucks that were built sometime in 2005 didn't get the new head gasket, but not much else to elaborate on there.

Now, my 2006 was built in 02/2006 according to the door tag, so would my '06 have been given the new and updated head gasket? I know it's a crap-shoot whether or not a pre-'06 will even blow, but I"m just trying to get a little better understanding of the potential issues facing me down the road.

Thanks

You more than likely have nothing to fear. As you said, Toyota redesigned the HG in 05. Having that said, HGs do go on newer 4th gens (statistically in line with other car makers). If I were you, I wouldn't dwell on this. No one outside the factory knows which GRFEs were fitted with new HG. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 05 and with 120Kmiles on the clock, I'm not worried (at least not today, LOL) about it. If it happens, it happens, it will suck, but more than likely I'll get it fixed. With the knowledge that a new design HG is part of my engine, I'll be at peace knowing my rig can go another 200K without issue.

I wouldn't spend much time or energy worrying about it. Like the previous poster pointed out, even with the old gasket it's still statistically unlikely that any single 4Runner will have the gasket go bad. More don't than do.

I have a good friend with a 2004 SR5 V6 4x4. It's the same year and engine that I have. My gasket crapped out at 120k. His is going strong at 250k and he doesn't take very good care of it.

It's really not something to worry about it until you develop symptoms that show that there might be a problem.

Yeah I'm not overly worried about it, just wanted to get some opinions. I drain and fill the radiator every year or two with OEM pink stuff, and make sure it's clear of debris at the same time to prevent overheating, so I imagine I shouldn't have too many things to worry about when it come to the HG, especially since it's a "later" 2006 truck.

if you look at the HG thread theres people who have blown hg's with under 100k, some way under, and then theres people like those who have been mentioned with over 200k and no issues. best prevention is monitoring temps and any potential symptoms, as well as coolant checks every now and then
