2007 4runner Squeal noise (probably brakes)

I have 2007 4runner..There are two problems i believe these are related to brakes.

1- I hear a loud squeal when i reverse the truck and apply brakes..
2- while driving at more than 30m/hr i hear very light squeal noise just like some metal parts are rubbing together..at lower speed as well there is some noise as brake pads or something like that is rubbing...while braking my stearing wheel also vibrates looks like rotors need re surfacing?

has any one else had the same issues with 4runner..

I am thinking of going to get the brakes checked..

when i talked to toyota dealer they said to find out the root cause of the light squeal we will charge 110$ and if you fix the problem from us we will waive these charges.

Possibly a seized caliper or simply just the brake pads are shot. how many miles on your runner? vibrating could be from a bad rotor. bad rotor could be caused by seized caliper causing excessive heat to the system. search for seized or frozen caliper and you will find some more info.

You may want to rethink taking it to the dealer. I agree that it is probably the brakes. If we assume the worst and say that one of the front calipers is frozen and the rotors have damage you will be looking at a repair where the dealer will want to replace the rotors, BOTH front calipers, and then the pads. From the dealer the calipers will expensive. So will the rotors. I would not be surprised to hear them quoting you 750-1000 dollars for the work and that is just for the front brakes. If your front brakes have been replaced once before I would bet they will tell you your rear brakes need work too.

Add more money.

If you go to a trusted third party repair shop they can use third party rotors and remanufactured calipers and you will save 100's of dollars.

Or do it yourself. I replaced my front rotors, calipers, and pads and replaced the pads on the rear and spent just 380 bucks on all the parts. My buddy and I did it all in about 2 1/2 hours. Just make sure your local parts shop has some of your calipers in stock. Then you won't waste time calling around if you need them. There are loads of links on the site that can how you how.

Thanks guys for detailed reply..I have taken appointment from Midas they have free brake inspection offer going on..lets see what they say and then i will decide

Today i went to midas..they have recommended rear brake pads replacement+ rear both rotors reconditioned. They gave an estimate of 246$ for this work...Please suggest if this price is OK..or should i go to the dealer to get it done....dealer estimate was around 300$ without checking anything(just approximate)

I can get it done from one of my pvt mechanic too but that work would be without warranty..

Please suggest if i want t go with pvt mechanic what brake pads should i buy and if i am replacing rotors what brand rotors should i purchase..

I'm not a huge fan of those large chain places like Midas, Just Brakes, etc. Don't you have a local shop that specializes in Toyota's? Just Google independent Toyota repair near your house.

I also went to pepboys they recommend front and rear rotors and pads replaced...they did a thorough check for free by taking off the wheels..
Their estimate with prostop rotors and ceramic pads for front and rear is around 600$ with 18months /18000miles warranty..

If I buy only genuine Toyota rotors and pads for front and rear costs me 850$ for parts only...

can any one suggest what is the best after market rotors and pads if i want to get it installed from a pvt mechanic is prostop a good brand?
