2007 Solara Nav - Info Requested

oemvalue.com has the 2007 Solara Nav units (E7009) listed now, and I'm hoping you all can help me get educated before taking the plunge.

I have a 2005 4Runner Limited with the 10 spkr 6 CD JBL Synthesis system installed. It also came with the rear entertainment system installed as well.

1) What are the main differences between the 2006 4Runner Nav and the 2007 Solara Nav units. I'm aware of the different colored buttons, but I mean functional differences.

Also, is the 2007 4Runner Nav out yet?

2) How hard is it to install the E7009 in my application? I read on oemvalue's site about the voice nav needing a speaker installed. Everything else just plugs right in?

3) What about the Mic -- which one is easiest/best to use in this application?

4) What about the rear camera? Will I already have wiring in my tailgate for it, or will I have to run wires?

5) Is the only option the Land Cruiser right side steering wheel controls for controlling the Blue Tooth functions? Still no native 4Runner controls available (e.g. for the 2006 4Runner nav)?

6) Will I be giving up anything by going to the E7009? Rear seat audio, etc.?

7) Is there a site I can go to see the owners manual for the E7009 unit?

8) Will I get sound out of all of my 10 existing speakers (noticed on 2006/7 4Runners the Nav comes with 8 speakers, not 10).

Anything I should have asked about?

From another post....

A1: I ordered the right side switches from Partznet...Talk to Tom...I ordered them for about $100 I think. You need the switches and a ribbon cable. They fit and work perfectly. The ones I have are made for a 2006 Limited so the LEDS are the same amber color.

A2: yeah those are the switches for the phone and voice command.
if you are looking for the part # it's:
84244-35030-B0 (the -B0 is for the stone gray color). if you need the tan color, you can call and ask.
I ordered mine from Toyotaoemparts.com and it was $57.00

I don't have the NAV system, but I've been researching them for a while, so I don't have 1st hand experience with them.

Check out the Sienna Forums, there's a lot of good information on there about the install.

1) There shouldn't be any functional differences between the 2006 4Runner NAV (E7008) and the E7009 other than the color. Not sure why the E7007 for the Sienna is a different model than the E7009 though.

2) As long as you have the JBL amp already in, it shouldn't be too hard. You'll need to tap the Reverse and speed sensor wires in the dash. I also believe you'll need to run a few wires from the 20-pin plug with the steering wheel control wires to the amp for voice output.

3) The Japan Mic would probably be the easiest to integrate since the wiring for the maplight mic isn't installed on your vehicle. But, you'll probably need to do some wiring modifications because the new E7009 plug is different than the older ones. Here's a thread over on the Sienna forums about the Mic install on older NAV systems. There's some information regarding the modification for E7009 in the link I listed in the beginning.

4) As far as I know, there are no wires in the hatch for the camera, you'll have to run those yourself. Again, there is some info on a bunch of different camera installs on the Sienna: Camera Install. Keep in mind that is for the older NAV systems and the E7009 has a different plug in the back. Again, check out the E7009 install link in the beginning of my post.

5) You've already answered this question, so I won't go any further.

6) Toyota took away the Rear Seat Audio system in the 2006 models and I remember reading on the Sienna forums that the rear seat audio will no longer work with the E7009 NAV, I'm not positive about this though.

7) Not sure about this.

So, now I'm thinking I really should be looking at the 2006 4Runner Nav (E7008). It has rear seat audio support still. Of course, not sure where I'd get one except the dealer/full retail....

Actually, I don't think the E7008 has support for the rear seat audio either, which is why the rear seat audio system isn't offered anymore, so you'd be in the same position going to the E7009. There is a new DVD entertainment system offered on the 2006+ 4Runners though.

Hmmm. Not sure if this is the same thing, but on the wiring diagram here 2006 Nav - Wiring it does specifically show "R18 Rear Seat Audio Controller" output. Maybe this is a reference to the new DVD entertainment system you referred to and not the audio-only rear seat option the 2005 had.

Would be nice if someone could confirm whether the 2006 E7008 could support the 2005 rear audio system or not...
