2010 SR5 4runner Body Roll

Interesting, I carried quite a lot of cargo and sometimes carried it quite far but have never noticed that. It seemed level to me when I loaded 720 lbs worth of laminate floor for basement. I doubt that Canadian T4R has different suspension, could be just my eyes are not sharp enough : )

Impressive. Toyota already gave you more rugged styling with better approach/ departure angles, and access to recovery points. It's entirely possible you guys could have stiffer springs as well. Toyota must think most of us Americans are a bunch of poseurs.

I don't mind it until I load it up with stuff or carry passengers. I had 4 other people in mine+luggage and it rode like crap. It felt like we were hitting the bump-stops over hills/ waves in the pavement and bouncing all over the road. I also hate the massive ass-sag. Just one person in the back seat+3 suitcases made mine lower in the rear. Come on Toyota....this is a utility vehicle.

No joke...The closest thing I've been in to compare the ride of an SR5 to is a Lincoln Continental. Floaty, wanders on the highway, dives forward at stoplights. JUST LIKE my friends old Lincoln. This is not meant to be a compliment.

It's odd - my TE doesn't drive right until it has that kind of weight in it, at a bare minimum. The first time I drove it loaded to the gills and the phrase "ah, I get it now" came to mind more than once.

You'd swear that the shocks and springs are variable rate, and need that amount of compression on there to work as intended. I realize the suspensions are different between the trim levels, although springs and shocks are likely the same for TE and SR5 trims.

OP, Bilsteins are the way to go - when the funds free up mine is getting those. I'll probably go HD since I can't lift mine and still drive it where it needs to go anyways.

I may be blowing smoke here but I have complained about my 2011 SRS boat ride for a while - the dealer won't help. I only have 4000mi on mine and can't bring myself to buy new tires yet.

As others say tires will help some, shocks maybe (but shocks are to dampen suspension movement not support the weight of the truck) or stiffer spings.

It would be great if someone had a comparison of various spring rates of the stock SR5, TE, Limited, and aftermarket spiring rates and even compare to FJs and 4th generation. Then the guy looking for a solution to the deplorable handling of the stock suspension would have information to make an informed choice as to the best solution.

BTW - I asked the dealer to check the alignment - he drove it and said no adjustments were needed - it performed as designed; then I took it to a specialty shop -they said the toe in and castor were off spec and they fixed it - no more drifting. Never trust a Toyota dealer. Precsion Toyota in Tucson to be exact.

Cheers

Ok, let me get this straight. You have already said you do not like the "boat" type ride you are getting with your rig. You already admit that the dealer will not or can not help you. You already know that the vast majority of members of this forum have up-graded their tires, then maybe shocks and even springs and have reported vast improvements in their rides. Yet, you are asking for specific numbers before you change anything, just so you can mathematically compare "personal opinions" as to the quality of "ride improvement". My friend, sometimes you just got to have a little faith and go with the flo...It is difficult at best, if not impossible, to quantify opinion. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Take the plunge and go for the gold..........Stay Safe.

Based on experience, start with tires and see what you think. Then, go with shocks. If that is still not enough, then think about springs. I assure you, you will not be sorry.

after I sold my 2010 SR5 a month and a half ago, I'm back to square one in looking for another vehicle...I currently have a 2007 Camry LE and a 2006 Lexus RX that drive daily...coming from a 370Z, I had to get adjusted to the boaty ride of the 2010 4Runner...then after selling it 7 months after buying it, and driving my 07 Camry LE for a week, my first impression of the Camry was that the handling was "GREAT"...now I know the Camry handling sux, because before I got back to driving the Camry again, and before I got the 4Runner, I always hated the ride of Toyota cars because they were either too rough or too boaty feeling....in any case, I drove a Limited a few weeks ago at work and realized one reasons that made me get rid of the 4Runner was because of the ride...I loved my 2010 4Runner, just that coming from all sports cars (350z, G35 coupe, and 370Z), I couldn't take the body roll...so I'm back to looking for another 4Runner, but this time I really want the Limited for the X-Reas suspension...but now that I found out that I can go aftermarket for better suspension, I'm probably going to get another SR5 and go that route....now, I've also read some people swapping out for FJ's suspensions? Which is the better way to go? I just want to get rid of the body roll and nose dive...
