2010 sr5 to 2011 limited?

So, I own a black 2010 sr5, but I've been missing some of the creature features that I wish I had, so I've been looking at new or used vehicles. I've been entertaining an '08 or '09 GX470, but I can't get past the barn door with no ability to lower the window. Otherwise, great SUV. The other thing is that it's almost impossible to find a low miles, white, 1st gen Lexus GX470 without the Nav. They integrated climate control into the Nav and it makes baby Jesus cry that you can't upgrade the head unit in those. Anwyay, enough things that made it a deal breaker.

So, I am considering the limited. I love the exterior styling of the 4runner, but the sr5 base interior leaves something to be desired (after a year and a half of ownership). I think that I like to see the temperature inside, and not just 3 lines from the big blue line. They cheaped out so bad on the 5th gen it makes me sad. But it is the car I bought and it does hold the value well (better than the Lexus above). Anyway, the numbers make enough sense that it doesn't hurt too bad, and I believe I would get all of the features that I want with the limited. I would still have to dynomat the doors (or fat mat, whatever), and upgrading the head unit is relatively easy, so there is a good amount of familiarity there. I think I can get out the door for <40k using the USAA car buying service. Some of the things I'll try to add in the deal are performance upgrades at cost, in particular the TRD rims and the TRD CAI install at cost. By getting them to install, I can incorporate that into the warranty. The rest of it is just a choice of black or beige leather. Both look pretty nice.

So, 2011 or wait for 2012? I don't particularly care about Entune, but maybe it's worth it? Pandora control would be nice, I guess. Yes, I know that conflicts with the upgraded head unit I mentioned above, but if the stock works well enough, I might hold off. I like the Kenwood 6960 I have, but I don't like the almost too cheap metra dash kit that is a necessary evil. Also, the stock mic does much better than the add on one I have in the SR5.

Running boards are a must (my wife is 5'2") unfortunately, so that leaves me with after market or OEM. TBH, I haven't seen the OEM in person, and the stainless tubes I have on the sr5 bother me after a year and a half.

I'll be taking my stubby antenna with me, but I'll have to buy a new HK sticker for the back window.

I purchased a certified pre-owned 2010 limited, which I don't think is much different from the 2011. I worked the deal over the phone with the dealer and got it with a 100k bumper to bumper warranty for just below 40k, 4x4 as well.

If you are planning on getting it new, without 4x4 you can for sure get it under 40. If you want 4x4 you may be able to get slightly over 40.
Just for kicks, go to Edmunds and price out what you would want, they end up giving you the suggested cost. You than do the "contact local dealers" option at the end, and it gives you options. I got quotes for just about what Edmunds suggested, which was around 4100 with everything - navi, third row seat, running boards etc..

I decided to go the used route, cause it was - 4k which is substantial plus the warranty. As you know, stock you only get covered up to 36k bumper to bumper.

Now - regarding Entune, it's more than just Pandora. Looking up places by name is kind of a pain with the current toyota Navi, its about %70 useful. Considering that the Entune system will be using Microsoft "Bing" its going to be real time internet search. Had I known that, that option will be available, I quite possible would have waited for the 2012, that is if they implement that navi in the 4runner, yet to be known.

i bought our 2011 limited with navi, all options except the third row paid 40162.00, msrp was 44300.00. that was about three months ago. we own 3 2011 4runners one base sr5, one sr5 premium with leather and one limited, i definitely prefer the limited mostly because the limited is available ith the interioir all black not 2 tone. i really liek that. now i just have to sell the wheels.

I upgraded my 2010 SR5 premium to an 2011 LTD with Nav and 3rd row and couldn't be happier. Financially painless. As a former 04 GX470 owner, the LTD is a good compromise between cost and features. GX V8 is so smooth - I miss that. But 5th gen mpgs are fantastic. Oh compromises.

@Danny, yeah, I can get a 8/125 warranty for a pretty good price, and purchase it any time. Defintiely plan on buying the extended one sometime in the 3yrs. I held off on purchasing it for the sr5 because I wasn't sure I was going to keep it, and it looks like i wont.

@plat, sounds like a similar price, and I have to agree, the all black leather interior looks great. While I like the sr5, I don't think I love it as much as I wish it had... more.

@John, did you find the transition to a rear hatch and rear window that opens a refreshing experience? Honestly, it's the biggest thing that is a deal breaker for me. I love that v8 in the 470s I drove. Very smooth.

That's a pretty sweet deal.. 4x4? No difference between the 2010 and 2011 right?

Not really, but I think I'm in the minority. I like the barn door because it takes less effor than the hatch. Only time I missed the hatch with the GX was when I was putting waders on to go fishing and it was raining. Most seem to hate the barn door for various reasons. I like the LE option to roll down the back window with the smartkey - in the event you need to load something or let in some fresh air. I just love the smart key all around - it's a life changer with kids etc and the old GX doesn't have it. I never drive around with the hatch window down because of exhaust concerns. Good vent for the dogs if I need to park for a minute though. Not a deal breaker in any way for me, but again, I think I'm in the monority with most preferring the 4R setup.

Wait for the right GX. You will not be disappointed. It has a better drive train and the inside is higher quality.

GX to 4R

I came from a 05 GX470 into a 2011LE, and am very satisfied with the change. My GX was one of the few with KDSS, and I find the rides to be very similar. I think a lot of the KDSS talk is overblown.

I did not like the barn door, and did not like the immobile rear window. I also did very much not like the mileage.

While the fit and finish on the lex is better, it is not that much better. Also, lots of comments about the v8 running so much better, that is wishful thinking. The G sounded better, but the 4R runs just as good. Again, 2005 v 2011...

I made one big mistake with the LE, and that was going with 2 wheel drive. I thought I would be fine with it, as i put on lots of highway miles, but it is still bothering me. May have to trade at the mid refresh...
