2011 SR5 vs 2015 SR5 Premium (Acceleration)

Hello all!

Just wanted to ask if anyone has had the opportunity to drive an older or newer T4R than their own. Over the weekend I drove my buddies 2011 T4R and it seemed to pick up quicker than my '15 SR5. He drove mine and felt that it doesn't accelerate as his does. I have about 2500 miles on my vehicle, he said maybe it's just not completely broken in yet. When I drove his is seemed the gas pedal was more responsive and the vehicle picked up quicker with less effort on the gas pedal. On mine it seems I have to depress the pedal more in order to get the same response. Any thoughts on this?

Your 4runner has a computer on board that will "adjust" to your driving style. My guess is your buddy has a much heavier foot than you do and over a little bit of time his 4r's computer has made the adjustment for his driving style.

Drive like Kurt Busch for a month and I bet you your 4runner will respond accordingly, however your mpg will likely take a hit.

There is a little bit of learning that does go on, but I don't believe it has anything to do with throttle response... Fuel trims, octane timing adjustments, and shift points are learned, but i have never seen anything related to actual throttle response in a factory ECU.

I test drove a few used t4rs when I was looking for mine and did notice a wide range of perceived power. Most were about the same, but one in particular was a total dog. I just assumed it had an underlying problem.

I would just give it some time and see what happens.
