2011 TE Advice on knick/scratch repair from dealer

I noticed this on my first or second car wash, I waited and brought it to the dealers attention at my 5k. It is obvious that it was delivered this way. They are going to take full responsiblity and They want to paint the whole top of the vehicle (proper way). They will take off the TE rack, remove the XM antenna, etc. Im nervious if I should just touch it up and call it a day, the issue is, it looks to be down to the metal and I dont want it to rust in the future, I plan on keeping it for about 10 yrs. Besides the chunck/knick, there are scratches that follow it over to the right, several, that goes about 2-3 inches. Pics arent the best but you can see some of them, not all. Some look alittle deeper then others but not sure if they are to the metal. What would you do? They want to paint it tomorrow, the scheduled it a few weeks ago. They are giving me a loaner, etc. I know im late on posted... They have a new state of the art collision center and I have expressed that Im really nervous about it and concerned about the repair. They said, they will own the repair for as long as I own the vehicle if they repair it properly, If I repair it with touch up, its then on me for the future issues. Its above the driver where the windshield meets the roof.

I had a similar issue -- I had two small paint chips on my left front quarter panel that clearly were not caused by road debris. I was just going to get some touch up paint, but the dealer contacted Toyota corp and the repainted the area with the paint chips. The body shop did a great job -- you cannot even tell...

As for the scratches, it sounds like you have a much bigger issue than I did... If they are going to pay for it, get it done and make sure they do it right..

I have the exact same model/color as you... I can only guess that there were some impurities on the metal when they were painted..

I would probably let them paint it for you. the bad thing about metallic paints, if you try to use touch up paint on little spots they never really blend in. If you have a good detail shop in the area, you might want to take it by there and see what they say about the other scratches. Most scratches can be buffed out. If there isn't a good detail shop, you could always call a Mercedes, Infiniti or some other upper end dealership and ask for the Service manager. They usually have a guy they will call about coming to fix small scratches or dings. That kind of person could tell you if they could be buffed out.

Back to them painting. If they are giving you a warranty on it, as long as you use the truck, that would be cool. Just get it painted and be done with it. Let us know what happens.

If it was some random place that was going to paint it, that would be one thing, but since they are a dealership, they will do it right. The best part is that they are giving you a warranty as long as you own the truck, so you are covered.
