2011 transfer case shifter movement

Maybe I'm paranoid since I was run into last Saturday (main impact left front corner from hitting a car turning right in front of me from the left lane - pix in my album), but today I noticed that the transfer case shifter moves around when I shift into reverse or drive from park, and vise versa. I never noticed it before. Anybody have any thoughts.

No aparent frame damage. Estimate is $4K...all cosmetic (I HOPE), but they do plan on measuring the frame to check for any deformation.

That shifter is connected to the drivetrain, it moves like crazy all of the time.

Realize that the transfer case is mounted directly to the transmission, which is mounted directly to the engine. The engine is isolated from the frame by rubber motor mounts. In addition, the body is isolated from the frame by rubber mounts, all in the name of comfort. All that rubber lets things move around, which you see with the shift lever moving around as you stress the rive train. Absolutely normal.

In my younger days I raced a 240Z in SCCA C Production. That car had solid motor mounts tied into the roll cage. Though it was a unibody car, the roll cage provided all structural integrity. There was nothing between me and the road and engine but solid steel. You would not want to drive anything like that as a daily driver. Every vibration from the drive train went directly to your hands and butt. Granted, an extreme example, but be glad there's rubber between you and the drive train.

I just never noticed the movement before, but since the accident, it seems like I notice every noise or movement. Like I said "paranoid".

I pulled the plastic cover that sits over the area between the radiator and grill yesterday. Didn't seem like anything was out of place. There is a small kink in the radiator support that runs etween the fenders. I guess they can straighten it.

My other ride is an Electrglide. I should be used to things shaking on vehicles!

Surprised that you have never noticed this before...

I've mostly driven manual t-cases over the years and find it sort of amusing to see the little guy wobble back and forth with throttle input and cornering but have to wonder how many people don't realize that it's supposed to wiggle around?

Or how many think it's a defect?
