So allow me to sum up what I've read here.

1. Same gas mileage.
2. 4x4 AWD doesn't help stop on ice.
3. Interior is same on all 4Runners with exception of waterproof Trail seats and SR5 is bad but good after after-market upgrade.
4. Reliable.
5. KDSS is worth it.

Seems like a Trail is not a bad choice after all (taking bow).

Toyotas are not perfect my transfer case has the infamous 4th gen leak. Started at 60k and 7.5 years. Out of warrenty. Dealer wants $2500 to fix.
I just made a drip pan to catch the drip and live with it. Also many have had stuck rotors and other problems (leaking cv boots, ac relay) on the 4th gen. Who knows it the 5th gens have been fixed. I have found that most any car can go 60k without many issues and after that it is a crap shoot.

I just sold my '04 SR5 after 203,000 miles. I never had a single issue other than maintainence (i.e. brakes, battery, etc...). I will be signing the papers of my '12 4Runner tomorrow evening. I can only hope the 5th gen is as good as my 4th gen was for me.

Oh and I sold it on craigslist after only 6 hours and 5 interested parties inquired about it. Try selling a 200k+ mile Jeep Cherokee.

While that may be theoretically possible, in the real world they seem to rust away. Since they have no frame, can't really do much but watch them dissolve.

I had a 2000 Limited Edition WJ. I loved it, my first car, but I incurred lots of issues. Stuff like warping rotors, heated seats going out, bump-stop, and finally blend doors. It got totalled and now that I am in the market there is a reason I am here and not of JF.

Yeah, but who wants to spend valuable time at the do for with someone you know you'll throw away? Warranty or not, you are out time and time is money.

^^^Exactly right! It might be simple if you could just bring it by the dealer and have problems fixed. But, don't forget the favorite phrase of domestic mechanics..."cannot reproduce customer complaint".

This is so true. I sold my 2nd AND 3rd gen on craigslist in less then two days...
