2012 sr5 2wd lift inquiry

I'd like to lift my '12 4Runner. I had a '04 Tacoma with an Icon Stage 1 lift on it and I took that vehicle 4x4ing just enough to justify having it. My '12 4Runner is 2WD and I probably won't take it off-roading at all. I'll admit I absolutely loved the lift, the height and the look the vehicle has which is exactly why I wanna get it done on my 4Runner.

Considering this, I got an estimate to have my 4Runner lifted. Realistically my budget for everything including 33" tires (I'll be using the stock SR5 wheels) is about $2K.

I got a estimate from a reliable shop in town that fits my budget. It's basically for a spacer/leveling lift that will give me 3" of lift including the tires etc. Has anyone had this done? Are you satisfied? Considering I want this done for aesthetics I'm hoping this is the way to go, but I'm open to opinions, ideas, stories & experiences if someone has done this. If so, do you have a link to your build thread with pics? I'd love to see how this looks.

Now on the otherhand, I believe that you get what you pay for so I got another estimate for a Fox lift kit that puts me at about $3K. That's about a grand over my budget but is it worth it? Consider I won't be doing any real off-roading. This vehicle is my daily driver and I want it to remain reliable for years to come.

I'd appreciate ANY feedback opinons, etc.

Not sure how labor prices and what not are in your neck of the woods, but it sure sounds like a major rip off, lol.

Spacer kits are 100-200 bucks, and relatively simple to install. It should not run you 800-900 dollars in labor (assuming $1000 of the $2000 was for the tires).

If I were in your shoes, I would buy a set of Bilstein 5100s all around (~350 bucks) and possibly a rear spring spacer if you want to lift the back too. Set the front 5100 to however much taller you want (up to 2.5"), and you will have yourself a lifted truck with pretty good ride quality as well!

The way I see it is if you're going to spend money for aesthetics only, at least spend a little bit more and get some better components that will last you the life of your truck.

Yes, $1K is for tires. I'm not a mechanic or suspension guy so I'm unsure of what I'll need. I just know I want it to last so your ideas are greatly appreciated. I'll look into the Billsteins.

Totally agree with eddiebx,spend a little more and get the bilstein 5100 shocks. With 1.5" spacer lift your stock rear shocks will overextend over speed bumps and make an annoying thunking noise. I did the spacer lift too, 2.5" front and 1.5" rear, will at least upgrade to bilstein shocks in the near future. The bilsteins are adjustable up to 2.5" of lift in the front, but fulling preloaded the ride might be stiff. You might consider doing the day star 1.25" top spacer and set the shocks to the first notch which gives you about .85" lift, so total will be around 2.1" lift front and 1.5" rear. Also would add a 10mm spacer to driver front to even out the 4runner driver lean. I think this would give you the look and clearance you need to run 33's.
