2012 SR5 Brake replacement

I purchased my 2012 SR5 pre-owned and in a few thousand miles the breaks are going to need replacing. Id rather just do rotors and pads in one shot so what do you guys suggest as a good replacement?

Was just gonna start a thread about the same subject but for a 2012 Limited. Same brakes though. Fixing cars for a living I've used pretty much every brake pad and rotor but I don't drive my customers vehicles every day to know what I would like specifically on the 5th gens. On my 99 Limited I ran OEM brakes throughout owning it since I get a good discount at Toyota and they always seemed to last long while the rotors never wrapped. With these trucks not being on the light side the rotors are my main concern. The oem brakes lasted so far 53k and probabky have some time left. I've just noticed the brake performance is down a little and most likely due to the front rotors developed a little bit of rust near the top of each rotor going about 1" down from the top. This happened when the truck was sitting with no wheels on at the dealership waiting for replacement wheels due to their mess up. Through my shop I get a 30% discount at Toyota but I would like a better warranty then just Toyotas 1 yr. Last week I installed some Duralast Golds rotors on my uncles Element and I liked that they were coated black so they won't rust. Also used their Gold pads but since they were for the rear I probably won't get a great assessment on their performance.
Was also thinking on some slotted rotors and EBC greens for a little better brake since I do tow atvs often throughout the year.
5th gen guys please feel free to let us know what have been great, good and crappy brakes for our 4runners.
Thanks guys!

ILIR, I will let you know what brakes I end up going with and let you know how I like them. Thinking on going with the Duralast stuff but if I can find out wither or not the oem rotors are coated I might at least go with the oem rotors. My cost is $56 per rotor and the Duralast ones are close to $80 each.

I went with OEM. Originals lasted 50,000+, no squealing ever, good stopping power. I'm just old and grouchy. Tried so many "superior", high performance, premium, whatever aftermarket pads on other cars I've owned and most of them are either bullshit hype or increase stopping power but squeal like a bastard. For the most part, I put my trust in Toyota. F'n expensive parts here in Hawaii but they work! For non essential, non life threatening stuff I sometimes get the "cool" stuff but at least I'm not fooling myself. I know I probably made a bad choice but WTF, it looks good!

about as many that use the search function. This has been beaten to death. Consensus is OEM is about the best you can get. I traded my 11SR5 in with 77k miles on it and it still had life on the original brakes

I have had nothing but issues with my OEM Pads and Rotors. My commute has alot of long downhill stretches, and I don't think the OEM Pads and rotors deal very well with the kind of heat buildup my daily commute inflicts.

At about 10k miles my Front Rotors were already warped (Or had uneven pad deposition) and they also squealed when coming to a stop. I took it into Toyota, and they resurfaced the rotors, and put in new pads. After about another 10k miles, the noise and shaking came back.

I don't like to skimp on parts, and usually only use OEM stuff, but for brakes, I think I found something better. After alot of searching on Warped Rotors, I had heard about Centric Rotors, and initially thought they were just cheap replacement parts, until I looked them up. It looks like Centric Parts is a division of StopTech, and their pads and rotors have design features to better handle heat and reduce noise. Their Premium Rotors are also coated, so they don't rust where the pads don't touch.

Last weekend I replaced my Front Pads with Centric Posi Quiet® Ceramic Brake Pads, and Premium Rotors. The shake and noise is gone. So far, I feel they are a better product then the OEM stuff, and hope they will handle my daily commute better, but it will take some time to tell. The cost is similar to OEM (I paid less the $300 for all 4 sets of pads and 4 Rotors)

I just ordered rear pads and rotors as well, to hopefully eliminate the constant cyclic squeaking I am getting from my rear brakes.

Here are the details on what I ordered:

Centric Premium Rotors

Brake Pads

Front Pads:
Posi-Quiet Ceramic w/ Shims and Hardware
Part# 105.09761

Front Rotors:
Premium Rotor
Part# 120.44174

Rear Pads:
Posi-Quiet Ceramic w/ Shims and Hardware
Part# 105.06060

Rear Rotors:
Premium Rotor
Part# 120.44175

They make 3 flavors of the Posi Quiet pads, Ceramic, Semi-Metallic, and Extended Wear. I went with the Ceramics which have fade resistance, and put out little dust, at the cost of friction level. The Semi-Metallics would be a good choice if you want a better "Bite"

Use sport mode and downshift for engine braking and do not hold the vehicle still with the brakes after a high speed/downgrade stop - shift to neutral and let off the brakes. This will keep from transferring pad material unevenly to the rotor and causing "warped" rotors.

I actually did do a search about this subject on this forum and couldn't find any good info or a thread. Hey at least I didn't start a new thread and just tapped off this one. Lol. It's Funny usually when you gripe a little about people not replying they actually reply. :)

I have about 53k on the original brakes and they still have life but I've notice the petal has gotten a little soft or not as good braking. My rotors aren't warped and I am somewhat of a aggressive driver but the rotors do have a little bit of permanent rust from the dealer leaving the truck outside without the wheels on. I'm sure this is what has caused the brakes to perform less then they used to.
I'm not sure if the rotors sold in the US are the same rotors that were installed at the factory in Japan. They could have a US manufacturer and use a different metal. Not sure but I would hate to get some oem rotors to only have them warp and with my luck warp after the 1 yr warranty expires. Lol.
I'll look into the Centric rotors if I can get them locally so if I have to warranty them it's not a hassle.
Thanks for the replies guy! I appreciate it.

Replace the brake fluid and bleed the brakes.
