2013 Transmission Downshift

I have a 13 SR-5 with 35k on the clock. When slowing down or coming to a stop, the transmission downshift seems to be more noticeable to where it feels like it is going into a lower gear than the speed or RPM calls for. It almost feels like you are downshifting manually. This is a new issue as well as the shudder from first to second. I already had the clunking fixed by the dealer. Just curious if anyone else has noticed the downshift feeling. Going to make an appointment to have it looked at but think they will say "it is operating normally". It's normal. Google "grade logic" or whatever Toyota calls it. Everyone's 4Runner does it but it has to be in a specific speed range on a specific range of slopes under specific operating conditions. For example, you can't be going 70 mph down a 1% slope and giving it the gas. It would kick in going 50 mph down a 5% slope in a coasting condition though. So to summarize, speed, grade and operating parameters are what activates this feature. I have went months without it ever coming on and I have went weeks where it works a lot. Again, it's normal.

Thanks for the responses. I looked up "grade logic". I can understand it happening when going downgrade but this seems to happen when on a straight away in traffic and more frequent as well as intermittent as 1engineer says. Frustrating that it seems to have just started as I am the original owner of the truck.

mine does that some times, a forced big downshift. as far as i can tell its just the computer making a decision based on some parameters. personally i dont care what it does as long as its not broken. it is a truck transmission after all

i think it's because of your wheel spacers.
