For those of you planning to use nutserts for the extra thread engagement I have a question. Are you going to countersink the holes on the brackets? If not won't the nutsert not be sitting flush?


Also, can someone post a picture of the light output against a wall at night? I'm curious how much the plastic grill interferes with the output.

Rivnuts

For those of you who used Rivnuts to install the light bar mounts what size did you use (1/4")? I'm assuming after watching countless youtube videos that I would drill the same size hole as the Rivnut size but please correct me if I'm off base. This will be my first time using them so any other helpful suggestions with install using them would be appreciated.

Hi all, Just wanted to share my experience with these brackets from [MENTION=133346]BradBrad619[/MENTION]

I asked Brad a few questions before seriously considering them, and he was really helpful. I thought the price was great for a custom fabbed item, and I sent payment via PayPal soon after talking with him. I told him I wasn't in a big hurry, and I still received them within 7 days of sending payment (I live on the east coast).

Super high quality stuff. I thought a few times that I could just make my own brackets and save a few bucks, but I'm so glad I didn't. These take all the guess work out of mounting the lights. Everything centers up so nicely, and fits right in place. A lot of thought went in to these. I have a 16TE, and couldn't be happier with fitment, build quality, and appearance.

I sprayed mine black before mounting, and reamed out the holes where the light mounts to the bracket, because my mounting bolts are a little big. Was no problem, since it's aluminum. Once dry, I removed the plastic shroud at the front of the engine compartment (done with no tools in about 90 seconds). I set the two brackets on the aluminum cross member behind the bumper cover, and then slid the light bar in place. I connected the bar to the brackets, centered it left to right, and marked the holes that are pre-drilled in the bottom of the brackets. I took the light bar out, so I'd have more room to work, and attached the brackets with 2 self tapping zinc screws per bracket. Never even took off the grill insert. I slid the light bar back in to place, tightened the bolts, put the shroud back on, and done. Now I need to wire it, but that's for another day. This job was stupid easy, thanks to the brackets. Anybody on the fence should pull the trigger. You won't regret it. For the record, my light bar is sold as a 24", but that's from end of bezel to end of bezel, so the lit surface is a little smaller. I couldn't have gotten away with much bigger, but I'm very happy with this one. Thanks, Brad!

How are the zinc self tapping screws holding up? what size did you use? Trying to decide on using self tapping screws or going for it with Rivnuts.

I decided to go with this version for rivnuts as it allows one to install various sizes. Hasn't used it yet, but seems fairly solid.

I haven't installed mine yet, but assume the 1/4" size will be sufficient.

There should be instructions in the kit that's shows the hole size per corresponding rivnut. I'm going to test the tool and rivnut on a piece of scrap sheet metal first.

I know some are considering rivnuts, but I have not had any issues with my drill and tap method. I only have 1 bolt on each mount as well. 1/4" NF

I think the same would work for you without issue and actually have less stress since you have twice as many mounting bolts per base mount using brads mounts.
Another thing, if your threads were to fail in the bumper, which is unlikely, you have the option of drilling the threads out an then going the rivnut route.

Just thought I would give you my .02 cents.

I probably drilled 10,000 of these back in my days as a carpenter, and I have a pretty decent feel for when a fastener makes a good connection. Because of the placement, I don't think corrosion is a big concern either. Snow or standing water isn't going to have much contact with them. A neoprene washered one may provide the advantage of eating up road vibration, but again, I feel pretty good about the application. Here is what I used, but without the washer:
#12-14 x 1 1/4" BSD Thread Self Drilling Screw Hex Washer Head with Bonded Neoprene Washer Low Carbon Steel Zinc Plated Pk 50 - ASMC Industrial

What's the biggest Light Bar people are using? Most I see are 22" and I saw that 30" won't fit. What about 27"?
