does the OEM bug shield still clip to the leading edge of the hood, or does it actually mount from under the front edge and roll over the leading edge.
the OEM 2012 tacoma bug shield actually clips to the leading edge and i promptly removed it cause that little sqaure patch of protective plastic moves after a while from vibration to the point that the patch will no longer be under the clip. fortunately i caught it before the patch completely slid out from the clip.
if it doesnt mount like the weathertech bug shield, i wont install them.
The 5th gen OEM hood protector fits the '14. Bought one from the dealer. Got it home, looked up the part number before I installed it and it was for a '10 4Runner. Called the dealer to double check. They said that is what is listed for the '14.
I gave it a quick test fit and observed it fit the contours of the hood perfectly. So the hood itself didn't change shape, at least along the leading edge.
Completed the installed and fit like a glove.
FWIW, I also have '13 Weathertech mats and Westin step bars - all fit perfectly.
There are a few threads on here with quite a bit of info. I know some folks with the AVS reported whistling. Haven't heard that complaint with both the US & CDN OEM deflector. Thanks ridintime, glad someone tried it personally.....now to choose whats the best brand to go...weathertech? AVS? or others...
keep an eye on those mylar patches and even if you beef them up, the vibration from the wind will move them after time. trust me, i about freaked out, the outer edge clips the patches were all scrunched up under the clip after about 6-9 months.
My clips don't actually touch, they are real close, I can easily slip a piece of folded paper in between the hood and the clip. There is no abrasion on the Mylar either, what I did notice however, you could get wear if the clip face is not parallel with the hood, the corner will touch and could rub. Once all of my clips were on and snug the thing does not move, it doesn't wiggle at all, it's quite rigid, surprisingly. I am definitely keeping an eye on it, 3 months so far all is good.
