2014 4Runner

For those trading in their 5th Gen, wouldn't it just be cheaper to swap the front end, or add the interior amenities that you desire? I mean, everyone here is all about mods. While I actually do like the refresh, I am not going to cost myself thousands of dollars for minor tweaks... Unless I was thinking of downgrading to the SR5. I will say the Silver one in the video above looked quite nice IMO.

Anyway, I don't post this sarcastically or mean any ill will. I do like the refresh but was just curious on the rationale.

I think once you sit down and crunch the numbers, you might be surprised as how close it is in price. Realistically speaking, it's probably not cheap at all to completely and properly swap on the new front end; all those bits and pieces add up quick, especially considering the only place you can get them right now is brand new from the stealership.

Plus, you also devalue your vehicle in the process; so when it comes time to selling, you might not get as much as a bone stock 4runner; unless of course you plan to save all the parts and put it all back on when you sell. But then this is more time and money.

Bright side of trading-in is you end up with a new model, and less mileage, which is always a plus down the road if you resell.

At the end of the day, neither choice is really financially better than the other, and it really all depends on your future plans for the truck. If you plan to keep things mostly stock and sell it a few years down, it's probably smarter to just trade-in and not deal with the hassle of modifying.

well if my current deal falls thru, which it looks like it will (no reply on my counter offer) i will be getting one of these. same color as the warden's current tacoma double cab v6.

that name was given to her by my old guild from dark age of Camelot and it just stuck. really funny part, she knows they call her that and knows I call her that.

things were different back in the late 90's early 00's. as I've gotten older, I don't tend to spend so much of my free time playing online mmo's and do other stuff like fishing, going out and other honey do lists items when I can.

anyway, with that blue (new for the 4runner) it makes the chrome landing strip not look as bad. the other color is silver that would lessen the effect. last color I would choose would be the red, but it may make the chrome stand out even more.

I talked to the order manager today and they could order one but I would be stuck getting a package instead of a bare bones one. I don't want the slide out tray. so my only options is to get the auto running boards or the 3rd row. right now im leaning towards the auto running boards, but that negates mud flaps. I will have to look at how much space I lose with the slide out tray to justify getting it. I know you could manually remove it (thread where someone has already done that) but its way to much work for me at my age (read lazy person here).

my deal with getting a 2013 Lexus GS350 awd fell thru today so the 4runner was a backup plan. still want to get it since the deal is to hard to pass up, so I will re address it tomorrow or Monday to see what I can work out.

anyway, the final conversation I had with the Toyota dealer here was they are not getting any until January or February of 2014, probably cause of my location, middle of nowhere in a town of under 60k.

decisions decisions.

KBB has the prices. A Limited rear wheel drive with the sliding rear deck has an invoice price of $39,227. They do not list the reddish-brown seats as an option, so has Toyota changed their mind on offering them?

Redwood is still an option. Ours is on the slow boat. Blue Limited with Redwood seats.

Fuel economy doesn't improve back to what it was in 2012:
2012 versus 2014

Toyota's press release for the 2014 4Runner stated that 4WD models were supposed to improve to 17mpg city and 22 mpg highway. What happened?

From the press release:
"Powerful 4.0-liter V6 Helps Take 4Runner Anyplace, Anytime
The 4Runner 4.0-liter V6 generates 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque. Dual independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimizes torque across the engine’s operating range. Fuel economy ratings rival some crossover SUVs with an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for 4x2 models, and 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for 4x4. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds and all vehicles feature an integrated tow-hitch receiver and wiring harness as standard equipment."

I photoshopped that silver part on the Trail edition on the front black.

I would probably do this on the White Trail, and paint this part black.

Not sure, I have to see a white Trail in person first lol.

well I pulled the trigger and dropped getting the 2013 lexus gs350 awd. i am now going for the 2014 4runner LE in either blue or silver, probably silver just to piss of the warden since she hates silver (but i love that color).

only question i have now is either sliding tray or auto boards. probably leaning toward the sliding tray since that is the lesser of the two evils since i cant get a non packaged LE.

have to wait and see what the blue and silver look like in person.

decided to drop the lexus since all the main features it has, is also in the 14 LE.

heated/vent seats, memory seats driver/pass, smart key system. gas was a wash since i get less mpg on the 4runner but i don't have to pay 40-60 cents more per gallon on premium gas i would have to buy on the lexus. another benefit, i wouldn't have to compromise on fishing spots with 4runner compared to the lexus or my current legacy.

now the long wait for actual inventory on my dealer lot.

while trying to find some info on the smart key system (the 2014 will be the first vehicle I have bought that has this), I decided to hit the Toyota owners sections. lo and behold they actually have pdf's of the different functions for the 2014's.
