We were among the first few in the door of the Orange County Auto Show yesterday, and they had a 2014 4Runner Limited on display.
We like that the passenger seat has a full range of adjustments (my wife is 5' 10"), something the Chrysler vehicles (Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango) lack. She could not find a comfortable position within the limited range of seat adjustments in the Chrysler products, so we ruled them out.
However, the driver's seat has a hard spot which was very annoying. I think it may be the bottom of the lumbar support. I felt for the hard spot, got out, put my hand there, and then operated the lumbar support control. I'll go look at them and see if I can either rent one or get a good 120 mile test drive, but a bad seat is most certainly something which would rule out buying the thing.
I like the cargo compartment width, as my 55" stored, 17' long extended Little Giant would fit crosswise. Instead of the sliding cargo platform in back, I'd much prefer under-floor storage as in my Explorer and numerous other SUVs. The primitive solid axle precludes that.
The other vehicle I found which is the exact same length as the 4Runner was a surprise to me and may be to you - the new BMW 3 series hatchback. The versions sold in the USA comes standard with four wheel drive.

The slope of the back glass does a number on the cargo capacity on the 3 wagon. It is a pretty car. I hate that AWD and AT are forced on you. 6MT and RWD would cut $2k off the $52k sticker than one would cost spec'd as I'd want it. :yuck:

yeah but to keep it within the same price range as the 4runner you would have to get the x3 2.8i. just to get lumbar support you have to get the $3200 package, am i reading that right from the option page from bmw?
if you move up to the 35i version (abou the same output engine as the 4runner) and add in comps to the LE, your looking at close to 50k. and someone at work has a 35i, and man they look awesome compared to the 2.8i.
couldnt you drop the 2nd row seats down to get the room or was your issue from the 55" lenth with them down already?
i know when i put in my request, i specifically asked for NO packages period. on the LE, there is only 3 packages. sliding tray w/ under floor compartments. 3rd row seats. automatic running boards.
and i have no use for any of those packages especially the $1500 automatic running boards.
the only pio/dio options i asked for was the black running boards, paint protection film, all weather mats (until i replace them), exhaust tip, mud flaps.
aftermarket items i intend to add later : vent visor - avs low profiles, bug shield - weathertech, all weather mats from weathertech.
edit : errr, were you talking about the 3 series car or the x3 series suv?

The car which is the same length as the 4Runner is the new 3-Series hatchback, not the 3-Series wagon, nor the X3 SUV. In Europe, they are available with a very wide range of engines, including diesel engines, manual transmissions, and cloth seats (nice in summer).

Hmm...not sure if I like it as much as I thought I would, stock at least. With some black it'd look great I'm sure. Maybe I'll go for the Nautical Blue, or black instead.

sad news for me. my new car gm told me my special order will not be in until late November or December. they haven't even built it yet, but its be confirmed its in allocation for him.
dealer 106 miles away has a red LE, so I may go down and take a look at it and take some pics.

They usually remove them at my local auto show. Guess if it is possible to be unscrewed or removed, somebody will steal it.
