it seems to me that the 'angry' look of the SR5 can be greatly minimized if there will be chrome grille and chrome bumper accessories to cover the current black grille over the radiator. I say this because if you look at the Limited edition, its not bad looking at all -in fact its got that rich gentleman-hunter look due to the chrome front grille(and chrome bumper). I can picture an owner wearing a tweed jacket holding a tobacco pipe beside his limited edition with a cute young lady smiling coquettishly at him :girl:

looking at the crystal ball, it seems that the 2013 and earlier boxy look will start to look more and more like a 'dated' look kinda like the older honda pilot - just my guess -..

if however the SR5 look will turn out to be too radical for the more conservative customers, then, there might be a slight change in the 2015 and up to soften a bit the transformers/angry look....who knows...although, ,really, all toyota has to do is replace the black mesh grille with chrome, and that might possibly do the trick or at least offer it to customers as an option.

I was holding out for a 2014 trail, that is until I saw it. There are a lot of nice f features and updates BUT man that front end looks like a freakin blowfish!

I literally ran out the next day and bought a 2013 TE, and glad I did. My only regret was trading in my 99' 3rd gen, I should have kept it.

I've had a few more thoughts about the 2014's -- especially since I found out that my '04 needs to have the head gasket replaced, that got me thinking a lot about getting something new. This is just the first of many very expensive repairs, and I have 166k on my '04.

I really liked the look of the '10 through '13 trail, but there were some things that bugged me about it. Though the unpainted plastic looks good when it's new, it ages horribly. Look at a 2003 that has the unpainted plastic, and you can see extrusion marks and it ends up more of a whitish color.

So many people here keep suggesting to paint certain parts of the '14 black, but when I really look at the design, I'm digging the silver accent on the front of the trail -- it ties in the lighter tones of the headlights, and helps define the front end. The SR5 looks a bit odd without that silver piece. Too much attention is placed on the headlights, and it looks like it has a huge gaping mouth.

Also, The '13 front end does look a bit dated. It's a very good classic sort of look, but there has been a big change in car design over the past year or two.

I look forward to seeing the 2014 in person, but the more I look at it, the more it looks "normal" to me and the more the 2013 looks old. This is exactly what Toyota wanted us to think when they come out with such a radically different front end.

Dated look or not, personally I think it was a bad design choice, of course I was a bit funked out a couple of decades ago by the eggish shape when I bought my '89 std deluxe pickup too.

A bad head gasket at 166,000 miles? So much for Toyota's "super reliability" claims... Did anybody really believe that the giant Toyota parts warehouse here in southern California was only full of filters and crash repair parts?

Just go see them, and you will forget the flat photos on video screens. When you are standing there, it looks just fine, except for those bug-eye light assemblies Toyota now uses - maybe they get damaged more easily, so they sell more highly profitable parts....

IMO, looks very bland (outside of the front end) vs. the '10-'13 TEs. However, I am interested in the under door trim that replaces the side skits of the SR5 and LE. It looks like that the folks that removed the chrome laden side skits from the earlier models may have an option, if the trim lines up.

Seems like a pretty big rip-off when you compare to Toyota Canada. The MRSP for the limited is less than that.

Saw the limited at a Washington State dealer. Looks better than the pictures, but the NAV is a disappointment. Screen almost looks smaller than the 2011 and it has a bunch of icons that you can not delete. Also, seems noisy for a limited. Seats seem improved. With the cut in price on the GX460, the difference is now only $5K for a V8 and KDSS over the limited. Makes one think twice about buying the 2014.

I think that white 2014 TE looks good. Can't wait to see one in person. The silver looks very subtle against the white. Love the new TE wheels too. Just wish the roof rack stayed all black but overall the new TE gets a thumbs up.

In regard to the seats, what's your weight and height? I am 6'2 180#, and the seats did not feel comfortable in my first try of the 2014 Limited at the dealer yesterday. Did you try the seat ventilation? It felt weak to me.

And I agree with you that it seemed noisy. But it was a nice package and rode well imo. I also agree that with the price drop on the 2014 GX, there is now only about $10k difference between a loaded Limited and a GX Premium package...close enough to maybe stretch the budget since you'd be getting more refinement, quality, etc. I still like the 2014 Limited though. I'll have to go back next weekend to see if I can live with the seats.

1.) so if I got the brochure right, 3rd row seats are only available with the SR5 ??? I was leaning toward the limited even if expensive but with no 3rd-row then that changes my mind - I might just end up getting the FJ cruiser(yes the 2014 is available) since it has 5 seats-same as the limited plus its only 5 inches or so shorter, plus its cheaper. decisions decisions.

2.) Does anyone know if 3rd row seats on the 2014 or earlier fold flat enough forward(or is it backward ??) so one can load long objects in the back ???

3.) Chrome bumpers and grilles not an option on the SR5? if so can anyone suggest 3rd party chrome grilles and/or chrome bumpers for the SR 5 ? <----gotta cover that gaping mouth in the middle :lmao:
