2014 7-seater rusty seats............

My SR5 is around 8 months from new - never been wet in the load area - in fact I have a Toyota oem cargo tray so absolutely 100% sure - anyone else have rust on their 3rd row seat frames like me? Obviously I'll get the dealer to cover under warranty but seems very unusual.

That is a bit abnormal for such a young vehicle, particularly how advanced it looks (its still just cosmetic surface rust though.) Usually I say mild specs of surface rust on seat frames and such as the vehicle gets old as most manufacturers don't completely treat the bare metal that makes up the seat frames and such (anyone who has reupholstered seats and/or removed seats on a couple year old vehicle should know what I am talking about,) not to mention repeated use over the years can wear/chip some of the coating off.

There are lots of bare-steel parts under the seats, and behind the dash. Most manufacturers do this to save money. Rust protection isn't needed in these areas. It's not an issue- it would take 200 years for that to rust through while inside your 4Runner. If it bothers you that much spray a little WD40 on it or rust neutralizer and call it a day.

What exactly do you think the dealer should do for you?

agreed - its totally not functional - just looks bad on a new $40k+ made in Japan vehicle. I'm sure the dealer will figure out what to do - that's why they exist to keep us happy

I would think it is a critical part for safety, and needs to be addressed.

The radio in my parents used Ford Granada would cut in and out, and I finally traced it to a grounding screw in a rusty hole up under the dash.

Don't think it is really a safety thing unless one of the kids or the dogs cut themselves on it & get tetanous blood poisoning. But I'll get it fixed with the dealer or with Toyota's Canada's head office help - clearly not acceptable in any vehicle let alone one with our reputation for Quality & Longevity!
