2014 Aftermarket Head Unit & Dash Kit

So I'm looking to get an aftermarket head unit and there are two main questions I have. First, what do you have and how do you like it? That's the easy one. Second, however ... that dash kit ... it appears as though there is one silver dash kit. My vehicle is mag gray and the dash appears to be roughly the same. Does anyone else have this setup and how did you deal with it? Any photos of your setup, regardless of what it is, would be much appreciated. Thank you all!

Hey, look! You already did this! Thank you so much for that. I tried searching and didn't find that for some reason. Interestingly, I ordered the mag gray paint and was going to try this. Seems like I'm on the right track.

Yeah... graphite gray pearl and black sand pearl both look very close. I think the graphite color is a little light and the sand is a little dark. Either looks fine enough, though.

I tried the mag gray, but I should be able to compare a few different ones. As long as it's not silver!

Magnetic gray should be the external color of your 4R. The interior color is definitely different. At least this is the case on my 2017. Not sure about earlier years.

I had a local body shop paint both the scosche and metra to match. The owner did it as a favor and only charged me 40 seeing as I've given him business before.

I choose to use the scosche. I'm running an AVIC 8200NEX and with a kit (maestro maybe?) was able to retain all the steering wheel controls. I'm super pleased with the results and it allowed me to get clean sound to my new speakers :humble:

I'm sure I'll be sampling a couple of things and making some trips to Advance Auto Parts for different colors, but it really does at least look close. You and your '17 ... my car is so old!!!!

Hey, that's exactly the setup I'm doing! How do you like the head unit? I'm already far past tired of not having Bluetooth, although I know the CarPlay will still need to be plugged in.

My old boss actually does a ton of side work (body work), so I might take it to him at some point to do a good job if my job turns out to be terrible.

Yeah... I just replaced by 2008 4Runner... now that's old!

I originally took my Scosche dash kit to a body shop. They quoted me $120. I said no thanks. You guys are lucky to have friends in the biz who will give you the friends and family discount. I got the "we don't know you" markup.

I'm hoping it'll work. I figure I can try a couple of different paints on my own first to make sure before I put some clear coat on there. I'm just excited to get the new head unit tomorrow! Going to pick up a can of the one you mentioned, though, too.

I have no complaints about the 8200. I bought it last year when it dropped so I'm quite jealous you can buy it for nearly half what I paid. A great bonus is that it's an inch larger than the stock screen in my pro.

Car play works well. BT works well. You'll like it.

Yes! I was very pleased with the price! How did you wind up mounting the mic? I'm pretty sure that's one of the things I've got to figure out.

Sorry for the late reply, it's mounted on the edge of the headliner above the rear view mirror. I had it professionally installed so can't really help unfortunately. It's on a small clip of sorts.
