2014 Entune problems

Same Same

I was recently having some problems with my unit to include Bluetooth not working at all. Took it in and they did an update at the dealer via Techstream and all is good now. They also said that if the update didn't work they would replace the head unit.

So I don't have a 2014 but I do have a 2015 with the Entune Premium Audio w/Navigation and App Suite. Purchased 11/2014.

My story may not be the same but I thought I would post in case it would help someone out.

I had the AT&T iPhone 5s and everything was working fine with the HU bluetooth and Entune Apps.

Just at the end of April 2016 I upgraded phones and handed down others to the kids. I got the 6s. Bluetooth hooked up no problems but Entune App on the phone would not connect with HU and trying to use any app on the HU would result in message saying I had to have an app running on the phone for it to work.

Created a case with Toyota and took it to the dealer as well. These are all of the things I had tried that did NOT work:
1) deleted all personal data on the HU
2) deleted Entune account through the web-page and built a new one a day later.
3) rebuilt the iPhone 6s without restoring anything as if it was a totally new phone and new account with none of my settings, I only applied the Entune App. Still no Entune synch.
4) took it to dealer where their service tech confirmed I had the latest software on the HU and connected Entune on their own phone successfully but my Entune would still not synch.
5) un-linked all of the associated apps (Slacker, iHeart, Pandora, Movie, Open-table, Facebook) via the web-site.
6) Tried all of the above as well with the USB cable connection.
7) tried all of the above with other iPhones as well including the 5s that I used to have and Entune would not synch for me. I never got around to trying someone with a different phone like an Android.

Keep in mind that in my case bluetooth was still rock-solid and consistently working even after "forgetting" from the phone and vehicle multiple times.

At this point I had resigned myself to just using Bluetooth as all of its functions worked perfectly from the beginning.

The HU and the Entune App on the phone just didn't seem to see each other for my particular Entune account.

I really like the voice feature in the vehicle in terms of searching for a destination and that only works with Entune.

SOMETHING FIXED IT ALL:

Last week there was an Entune App update in the Apple App Store. I downloaded that to the phone but the HU still would not see that Entune was running on the bluetooth connected phone. Nor would the HU see Entune running on the phone if the phone was connected via the USB cable.

Now I don't know which of these two items actually fixed the problem, but here they are:

1) Apple put out an iOS update to 9.3.2 from what I had (9.3.1). iOS 9.3.1 though was on my 5s when it worked properly before.

At this point I should have tried Entune again but I didn't. Instead I opened Entune on the phone and un-linked all of the associated accounts (Slacker, Facebook, Open-table etc.) but this time via the app running on the phone rather than through the website.

2) with no apps signed-in (linked) to Entune I connected the phone to the car and suddenly Entune connected too!

Now the HU displayed that an update was needed and so I let it run and install.

With the update completed on the head unit I shut down the car.

I logged into Entune App on the phone. I went through and linked all of my associated accounts again via the iPhone app (not via the website). Restarted the car and everything linked up again and working.

So I am not sure if the iPhone iOS update was the resolution or me unlinking my accounts via the Entune App on the phone or the combination of both. Maybe if it applies to someone else they can try unlinking the accounts via the app on the phone to see if that gets Entune to synch before applying the iOS update.

I can't seem to stream from my iPhone 5 unless I use voice command. The "play" button won't start it playing.

Am I missing something???

Not to answer a question with another question but I am not sure if this is being done when connected via Bluetooth or USB?

Presuming Bluetooth, I can't remember the exact option but in the "bluetooth" setting on the iPhone 5 once it connects to the vehicle click on the "i" in the circle to the right and there is another slider to enable sharing or something to that effect.

Other than that I am not sure what to try.

Thanks for the answer. I keep my phone in my pocket when driving, so I'll have to try different things till I figure it out. It IS cool to be able to voice command it to play, so it's not like a really big deal...

;)

Coincidence.....
Got in the 4Runner this morning to take it to the dealership to get 45000mi checkup and get tires/wheels balanced and rotated.
The HU that was replaced back in March 2016 under warranty had a black screen.
As soon as I hit the Home button, I had full function.

So, I mentioned it to the service writer and since it is out of the 36000mi warranty, they want to charge for the update (if needed).

So I am going thru the motions in the event I continue to have problems.

If they update the HU w/ new software update,
I will post it.

Ok, so there is a new software update for our HU's.
The tech said Toyota is definitely aware there are issues!

Aha... Thx. Just about to make an appt before the family vaca road-trip in a few weeks. I’ll have them update my HU as well.

Over the last few years I have seen the Entune HU crash and restart MAYBE a total of 8 times. After this recent update, It crashes about every 4 minutes! I am not exaggerating at all. THis is completely frustrating, especially since I JUST passed 36,000 miles this weekend.

Please post your version.

Mine has been crashing now on regular basis. I'm at 33K miles and plan on taking it in and let them figure it out. No call is a good call to loose, but as a sales guy it is terrible. My stereo and nav lock up also.

Sometimes the devise simple reboots itself.

It a pain in the butt.

iOS update and now rebooting

2016 TEP. Was working ok (Entune sucks, but it was at least functional) but soon after updating, my HU started freezing and rebooting. Seems like it happens shortly after I start driving, maybe 3 minutes into the trip. Seems to only do it if audio is streaming over Bluetooth (iTunes or phone calls). Will be calling the service department tomorrow.

According to
My dealer there is no update for 2016 units. Remember there are two kinds of updates. Entune app suite updates which update the apps on the head unit from your phone. The other kind of update is a firmware update. This is done via USB stick from your dealer. 2016 doesn't have a firmware update yet. There have been app updates for both phone and the head unit. App updates to the head unit have nothing to do with Bluetooth connectivity.

head unit update

Took 2016 TEP in and had firmware updated to version 010182.

audio version: 010182
Audio System: 000095
DSP Module: A10010
Sub: 010001
Can: 130209

release notes:
Fixed some features for better use.

Will post if it does not fix my rebooting problem. So far so good (only about 5 miles).

Rain causing reboots?

So the update did not resolve my Entune rebooting issue. The only other factor is that since purchase, we have had very little rain until recently. I can't swear to it, but I think it may only happen when it is raining. Seems like that would point to some type of electrical issue because of moisture getting to something. Searching for "entune reboot rain" I actually found quite a few people with Toyotas experiencing the same thing.

Anyone else notice Entune reboots in the rain?

Hi dlstyley ,

I think the rain/bad weather has more to do with radio frequencies traveling through airwave interference, which then become unstabilized, rather than water possibly getting into your vehicle's electrical systems! If your electronics are getting wet, the radio will be the 'very least of your troubles'; trust me on this one!

cheers

Perhaps, but I'm not listening to the radio when this happens. This is all Bluetooth stuff (music, phone calls, Pandora, etc) when the reboots happen.

Could water penetration around the shark fin antenna impact the Entune head?

I may test the theory at the car wash...

It's possible but I would think it's more likely a marginal ground getting affected by the moisture causing the radio issues, if it's only happening when it's raining. Ours wasn't dependent on the weather, it would lock up any time but the update has so far fixed that. However, I have seen other vehicles with issues that were tied to weather systems though so I wouldn't rule it out. If there is water intrusion, that is something that needs to be addressed right away though. I would test at home with a garden hose instead of a car wash that have some interference with it.
