I wanna go, might need to have a sit down with the wife and convince her it is time.
The 2012 Summit was my Wife's first overlanding/trail event.. she enjoyed it a lot (not the 1000ft drop offs, but the event overall). The vendor village, barbeque etc were a blast. We stayed in town at the Spangler House B&B. Run by a great Hoosier couple.
That's us on the summit of Imogene Pass (left side)... and yes.. she had her foot in a aircast at the time! :biggrin2:
Plenty of girl-drivers as well.

For those going or looking to sign up for trails, i would highly recommend this book. In Area one is all the Ouray stuff. We took it with us last year and it was awesome. It has waypoints, directions, descriptions of trails, and some historical stuff.

I see in the pic you are still stock and went up the trails. I have a lift but no upgraded skids on my SR5 so good to know I would do ok on those trails. I have read that they recommend skids as an upgrade

You'll be fine with no skids, plenty of trails to do without needing skids. That book I linked to above, you should be able to do any of the Green or Blue trails.

Nice I have that book for my Area in Nor Cal.
Only thing that worries me is being able to do some of the epic trails with great views I see so many post video's of. Hate to go all that way and miss out. Yes i can go again.

Poughkeepsie Gulch is really the only one of the really popular ones you would struggle on.
Most all the others that the summit covers will be fine. I'm tell you that book is worth its weight in gold while your up there.

True story, I just sent my wife the link for the Fj Summit and said lets do this for the family vacation this year. Her response was " um it says FJ" I couldn't stop laughing.
So needles to say she is on board with going, I maybe signing up this weekend when registration opens up. Hope lots of my fellow T4R owners are going so we can meet up.

I had stock LE skids at the time (i.e. small gas tank skid), stock XREAS suspension, but traded the 20 inch rims for the TRD rims with 265/17 tires. I was able to go everywhere I took it, but did end up with some underbody scrapes and one pretty good size dent in the gas tank skid (see build thread). Did not slow me down though or cause any concern while we were out there.
pay attention to the guy/gal in front of you; Pick your like and beyond that enjoy it!. Do get the map/book of the area. [MENTION=77604]SEP[/MENTION], and FJ and I tried to go to Yankee Boy Basin on our own and we took a wrong turn that resulted in a very tight turn-around (and a backing off the mountain in reverse). Soooo... DEFINITELY bring a map :eyebrows:

A stock 4runner wouldn't have much issue with any trials in the area, other than maybe P Gulch and a couple of side obstacles. With a lift and ATs you'll be fine.

those trails get crowded quick. I'll probably stay home. If I do venture up there it will be on the moto.

John, I've been traveling a lot in my off time for skiing. Wheeling season is just around the corner though. Hopefully we can check out some of those lower trails I was telling you about soon.

I bought this book on Amazon, haven't had a chance to do any of them yet. But looks like a great resource.
