2014 LED tail lights

The listing on ebay does not include the 2 sub-harnesses needed to make the '14 tail lamps work on a '10-'13 4Runner. This has been discussed at length in 2 seperate threads. I even went thru the trouble of going to a Toyota dealership that had a sub-harness and I posted pics of it in this thread. The pic clearly shows the part #'s (which I provided a long tima ago) and I have thoroughly described the sub-harnesses on 3 different occasions. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY SOCKETS!!!! The sub-harnesses contain 2 sockets that should accept 2 of the existing 3 bulbs on any '10-'13 4Runner. If not, finding the correct bulbs is a no brainer.

OK now I'm slightly confused. Isn't part of the point of doing this to be able to have LED bulbs on a 2010-1013? Are the 2014s not actually LEDs, but just made to appear like LEDs? Could you clear that up for me? I just like how the newer LED tail lights seem to light up quicker than incandescent ones, but I don't think I will do this if all I am doing is putting in the old-style bulb. Thanks and I'm sorry if it was answered before.

Basically, only the center section of the assembly is LED. The center contains a large LED panel. The turn signal and reverse lights use regular bulbs. I guess you can call these tail lamps a Hybrid of sorts. It's the same way on my Dad's '11 Tacoma and on my mother-in-laws Highlander.

If I do get them, which I most likely will, I'll probably paint the top section of those lenses with one coat of VHT Nite Shades. Toyota has done something to those tail lamps to make one think that the lower half of the lens is smoked. If I can somehow duplicate that smoked look at the top of the lens, then these would really look sweet. I don't think that on a white or silver 4Runner it would be necessary, but on any color other than it is IMHO

Can someone get pictures from a distance farther then 2 feet away? curious how it looks with the whole truck. Also it was noted that the turn signal bulged out more can someone snap a shot going down the side of the truck from front the rear hugging the sheetmetal so we can get a better idea.

Either way good foot work to those involved

Thank you much!!

those are all from a 2014 though, there might be some small differences.

and btw, a question, are the trail and limited tail lights from a 2014 are different like on the '10-'13 models, or they are the same?

I don't believe that the dimesnsions between the 2 are any different. I think it's an optical illusion of sorts. The part of the lens at the turn signal is much more transparent and that sections contains alot more chrome. I think the combo of the two make the top portion of the tail lamp bulkier. Also, the tail lamps are the same for all 3 trim levels.

I am very disappointed as I ask for an update on my order for the taillights and sub harness and this was the response I got, :(

Hi Alberto, I am still waiting on the lenses, they are currently on back order. I have an estimated time of arrival to my facilities on January 6.
Thank you,

Thank you,

That blows. When I oredered the one from the dealer, they also said that it was on back order but they still managed to get it to me in 4 days.

Yeah, this was supposed to be my x-mas gift to myself. LOL I was hoping to switch out the old tailights to the new one this weekend. I guess I have to be patient now and wait. :(

Well played Sir, it was a late night at work, brain was shutting down... I guess the front end of a 10-13 wouldn't matter is what I'm saying.

lols, I'm just messing with you, I went through the trouble of photoshoping them onto my truck until I realized that I could've just went to the dealer to see the lights on a mag grey 4runner :frusty:

Just did the move, and ordered the parts from Toyota Parts Sales of Dallas. Cambelback won't ship to canada, and the tail lights at Parts Sales of Dallas were just a few $ more. It cost over 150$ for the shipping only though... pretty steep IMO.

Ordered the tail lights, part numbers from page two of this thread, and the two wire harnesses that the first guy that did the swap posted.

Right= 81551-35400
Left= 81561-35390

harnesses: 8155535400

So as I understand, once received, this is all I need to do the swap and everything is l
Plug and play? Can't wait to get them, have not received the shipping date confirmation, hope they won't be backorder.

Wow, shipping is crazy expensive. Its probably because it is being shipped to Canada. All parts that you ordered is all what is needed for the swap. I think the only issue that came up is the bulbs from the turn signal and reverse lights as the original ones from ours is not the same for the 2014. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Hell I surely would like to know too, it would be pretty bad to receive the lights and not be able to install them right away :)

I'll call toyota next monday to clear things up if no-one has the answer.

I just completed this mod. Thanks to the info and part#s posted by N2GLOCK the switch-over was easy. If you order the parts you have listed the rest is P&P, the 2014 harness will replace the 2010 sockets and you can reuse your 2010 bulbs (you don't need the brake bulb as that is now LED). In the pic below I have the 2010 sockets on the left for ref. I ordered my parts from Mid Atlantic Toyota parts as they ship to Canada.
Hope this clears-up any remaining questions.
