Added the new TYC tail lights with both part numbers ending in 00. No extra harness needed, true plug and play.

I'm thinking about doing the LED tail light conversion to my 2013 4runner. I have the part numbers for the lights and the wiring harness. I'm looking on ebay for used/new OEM LED tail lights but some people on ebay are saying i will need a gasket or "trim ring" to do this conversion. I've never heard this before. Any idea what they are talking about? Thanks for the info!

Seen a few reports on Amazon of bad seals and condensation as well as one report in this thread on these Plug-n-Play TYC tail lights.

How is everyone liking these lights months later? Are the seal issues prevalent?

Looking to pull the trigger, but not excited about condensation issues.

mine doesnt have any condensation...its been over 8 months and i check for it every now and then, but so far so good

i guess its just your luck in getting one thats properly sealed

I don't have TYC tails (used OEM Toyota) but I tried pair of TYC headlights on my other 4Runner and seal failed in less than one year (have condensation inside already). Crap stuff, I'll never buy anything again from that company!

The answer you are all wanting is

The 2014+ lights will bolt right up however

The 2010-2013 wiring harness is different

So what I did was I bought the wiring harness from Toyota for the 2014 and hard wired the connector in so I could use the 2014+ tail lights

I did this swap, the easiest method is to buy used OEM lights with the harnesses. It just bolts in and plugs in as a direct swap then. I got mine on ebay, had to hunt around for ones with the harness.

Took the ones out of my friends 14’ before he traded it in.
Swapped mine into his, direct plug and play both ways.

I replaced my tail lights with newer 2014+ and they were plug n play with no additional hardware. Ordered from Amazon, no issues to date. My TRAIL is a 2012.

Does anyone know if the TYC tails are able to be separated with heat for customization? The OEM tails are laser welded and its not possible.

Love this forum because of it i had the confidence to get into a 2010 4Runner. Few days later bought used headlights and taillights from a kid who bought aftermarket black housing ones for his 2019. A day later picked up my harnessed from the dealer and now I'm trolling. Got a 2010-2013 front end with a newer back end lol.
