2014 MPG Question

I recently traded up from a 2003 SR5 to a 2014 TE. Around town in my SR5 I routinely averaged around 17 mpg. In my 2014 I have yet to average above 16 around town. Everything is pretty much stock. Just wondering what others with newer models are averaging, and if this seems normal.

Thanks in advance.

How many miles have you driven so far? Reason being is that over time, it will get better. Also, have you checked your tire pressure?

I got a 2014 TE early in Dec. and now have about 2500 on it. I just had it a couple of weeks when I reset the average before I went on a 4 hour trip on which I got 22.3 mpg. I have not reset the average since and it now says 20.3 mpg which has been a combination of city and highway driving...so based on that you have a heavy foot or something is not quite right.

"Well Bob, that lucky contestant has won a Texas-sized copy of the book Winter Gas Use Will Result In Lower MPG'S!!!!" "And, they sell that gas in Texas!!!" Wow Bob, this is almost as exciting as that time you won that third place trophy in a race with only two competitors!!!" "Back to you Bob!":third::high5:

what i need is a permanent filter with a keyword of MPG so i dont have to see these threads ever again :)

I have a 14 TE with about 600 miles on it and with doing about 80% of my driving on the highway at 75ish i'm averaging 17.5.

Winter gas, summer gas, tires, armor, all the crap we keep in the back, 3 passengers and the list goes on. 4runners have never been known for their fuel economy... much like Chevy Suburbans. Any change seem to impact its fuel economy. I went from C to E rated tires on my 3rd gen and lost an average of 2~ mpg.

I also live 6 miles from work, ride or drive, my trucks have always been for vacation/trips/fun, if I had a long commute I would have bought a beater 30+ mpg. That said, the last four tanks, I have gotten as low as 13.5 mpg around town and I average around 16, this is by the fill-to-full-click method at the same gas station, using the same pump. I am going back to pure gas, I got better mileage and wasn't running that deteriorative crap through the system.

I have been getting around 14 in the city.... I haven't had a long highway expedition yet. I've ran about 4 full tanks of gas through her to date...! It is the worst gas mileage I've ever seen out of a V6 vehicle, but oh well I love the new 4R... I wish they would put a V8 in this thing to justify 14MPG..... Thats what I get in my 2011 Tundra Platinum Crewmax V8.... not sure what's up. I hear people talking about 16-18 MPG... I believe it is impossible...

My 2 cents

I've got a 2014 Limited (full time 4wd, running stock size Blizzaks) with ~2000 miles on it. I drive 95% rural backroads and around town. Not a ton of gridlock.

I've been hand calculating my MPG (crappy winter gas in New England) and I've been right around 17.5 mpg. My display reads about 17.8, so slightly optimistic.

I have a 12 LE all stock and I have never had MPG less than 19 MPG, on a highway trip to Cali I got 22MPG with the car full to the gills

Routinely I get 19 MPG around town

I guess it's all in how you drive. I was so excited about my mileage when my runner was new (to me) that I made a post about it. I bought it with 6300 miles on it, and I was getting 17.6 in town driving. Now I'm getting about 15.4.

I think it's learned my driving habits... that and maybe winter gas.

I don't know how some of you get such great mileage to be honest...if I am on my best behavior and cursing at a constant 65-70mph, I will average ~17.5-18MPG tops!
