2014 MPG Question

i dont look at the mpg. i just shifted money from one vice to my gas purchase budget. went from about $175 a month on the legacy to a budget of $250 a month for the 4runner (with the ability to ballon up to $300 month).

since i quit smoking to help pay for the 4runner gas/payments, i dont care about the mpg.

$20/week for smokes
$107/month health insurance fee for smoking

NoDak good for you man! Much better habit now :D :thumb: recovering nicotine junky here too, shocking on how much money spent to kill ourselves slowly.

Just returned from a 450 km round trip and got 19.2 US mpg averaging 75 mph. (12.2 L/100km at 120 km/h).

50/50 highway and stop and go, not super easy on the pedal unless traffic's clear, and a bunch of added weight and drag (285 duratracs, 17x9s, full set of RCI skids, Drabbits roof rack, and a lift): 15.8mpg avg on 3300miles.

That's actually pretty impressive given what you have hanging on your car.

Most of the guys that I have seen with a lift, 285s, skids and a rack get around 12.

Well done!

Thanks! I'm really confused, to be honest, because I'm still waiting for it to drop. But with all this stuff added I'm only down 1mpg overall... and the wheels/tires/lift I've had for about 1500 miles now. I am basing these figures off the built-in display, so it could just be really slow to update, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Maybe I'm lighter on the pedal than I think, but I hit WOT at *least* once per commute trip.

Is it 4runner`s speedometer? Can I change F to C and Mp to Km is it access in option of car`s computer system?? :help: Or is it canadian setting of 4runner and there no free to change?

I think the on-board is maybe decent for a running average. I use the fill-to-click at the same station/pump, per tank seems better IMO. I seem to get a better feel for how my most recent driving habits effect the mileage.
NoDak what app is that?

Another mpg thread, this time about 2014s, so I can reply! :love: :p

2014 LE

Wife commuting to work: 17 mpg
Me commuting to work: 21 mpg
70mph "eco-cruise*" between HSV and BHM: 19-20 mpg
Secondary roads with a mix of 55 and 65 mph (mostly 55): 23 mpg
Two lane country roads w/little traffic (45 mph): 26 mpg

*Take cruise off on hills to keep the torque converter locked

:lie::crazy:
Ignorance is bliss, I reckon.

It was ~40 miles of near flat and empty 2-lane roads where I just sat at 45-50 mph.
Going 45 mph takes ~40% of the power that 70 mph requires. If mpg scaled linearly with required power, getting 19mpg@70 would get me 30mpg@45mph. However, the engine is only turning ~1250rpm and using very little power (~15hp) when puttering at 45mph, so you end up in an inefficient spot on the BSFC map. Thus, 26mpg is actually quite believable.

Hey Jeremy the resultant power needed to overcome the 4Runner's drag will vary as the cube of velocity. With power required goes fuel burned. There are no straight lines in these calculations lol. You are right there is points of inefficiency though.

The 40% was taking into account rolling and aero drag. Ecomodder has an excellent page that will calculate required power if you give it the right inputs.

4Runner inputs I used:
Vehicle Weights: 5005 lbs
Crr = .015
Cd = 0.36
Area = 27.57 ft^2
Air Density = 1.225 kg/m^3

I planned on doing coast-down testing this week to find out Crr and CdA, but my ACL and I parted ways a few days ago so I've been pre-occupied. Wife gets the 4Runner back Sunday :cry:

Hi Guys! I've had my SR5 premium for about a week now 2 weeks now. My MPG is pretty low. Says I'm at just under 13 mpg. Most of my driving is city driving. I have rarely hit the highway so far.

Is this normal? I've heard of winter gas? Or is it because I have had it for such short time? I'll most likely be getting my first full tank of gas this weekend.
